Oregon Wine Maker Tours — Attraction in Lake Oswego

Having visited the Willamette Valley a number of times over the past decade, I didn't expect to "learn" a whole lot of new information this time around- BOY WAS I WRONG!

Our group of four was made up of two Oregon wine veterans (myself and my wife) and two relative newbies, always a tough situation for a guide as they sometimes cater to one end of the spectrum over the other. Not a problem with Carmine! He did an wonderful job of providing detailed information on all the wines we tasted, all the wineries and winemakers we toured, and told a number of truly entertaining and fun stories along the way.

We asked for a slightly custom tour over Valentines weekend- and Carmine offered a number of unique stops offering special experiences for the holiday. From oysters and bubbles, to chocolate and wine pairings, along with two special tastings of his own creations, we were truly blown away by our day.

Carmine is a veteran and I emphasize because this tour is way beyond simply a knowledgeable driver chauffeuring you to 4-6 wineries. We have lived in Portland for nearly 30 years, and have often enjoyed visits to our local wine country. Recently we toured with Oregon Winemakers which was by far the most exceptional of all previous visits. We had so much fun with our hosts and other guests, and everything about the tour was first class: beautiful and comfortable transport; perfect lunch for wine tasting, and lots of information from hosts who know a lot about wine and the local scene, and are extremely accommodating to their guests. In our case, they chose the three wineries for us and each was selected because they offered such different experiences. I would be hard pressed to say which one I liked the most. The first was astonishingly beautiful, and time with the owners and also with falcons who guard the vineyards, added to the treat. The second was grandiose, and certainly a destination by itself. Carmine is a charming and incredibly knowledgeable host and, because he is a winemaker, we learned more about wine on this tour (as well as tried some of his delicious wine) than we have on regional wine tours in California and Washington State. We went with his recommended choice of wineries and were not disappointed. Lunch at Holloran Vineyards was outstanding. My missus, who ordinarily does not care for fish, thoroughly enjoyed their delightful smoked salmon (as did I). The rest of the lunch was delicious as well and was paired with some of their wonderful wines. We even saw a bobcat as we drove through the hills! We could not have asked for a better wine tasting tour or a more delightful guide.
