J. Alden Fine Jewelry and Precious Metals — Attraction in Lake Wylie

Came to this place for a ring cleaning and was charged $25…and told that I’d have to come back for it another day. I was somewhat confused by that since the local jewelers near my previous home offered cleanings as a purely complimentary service (plus checking for any loose stones and tightening things up when needed), as well as being done within 10-15 minutes of me walking in. I’d never had to pay or leave the ring and come back later. When I asked (just out of curiosity) why it was a paid service for them when I’d only ever had it be complimentary at another jeweler, I was told it’s because “he polishes them by hand afterwards.” The woman behind the counter assured me it was worth the cost and it would be “like new” when I saw it again. They also tried really hard to talk me into getting the ring rhodium plated, which would have been another $50. I thought maybe it was worth the $25 for the “hand polishing” so I left the ring with them. When I came back for it (a week later) it looked…clean. But nothing special (or different from my previous experiences with the complimentary cleanings) at all. It definitely wasn’t an outcome that made me want to pay $25 again. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Jody and his staff. We met him through a trustworthy referral and he restored my grandmothers ring. He took such special care of it and it’s never looked better. My husband was looking for an upgrade for my setting and we stopped in and Jody created the middle set for us, he took his time to make the top band to perfectly match the bottom one that he had already created. It’s stunning and I love it so much. Lastly our daughter got engaged and we all decided it would be really special using her great great grandmother’s setting. Jody cleaned it and added diamonds and did a beautiful job restoring it to its former glory. Jody has been a huge blessing to us. He is honest, takes his time and is very reasonably priced. Everyone there is friendly and communicates every step of the way. He cares about his art and the quality. I appreciate that nothing leaves his building. On 12/19/23 I dropped off a ring to resize. On five separate occasions I was told a projected date to pick up jewelry. On 1/10/24 I spoke with owner who stated the jewelry could be picked up. Responded I would pickup ring on 1/11/24. I called the store prior to pick up and a staff lady told me ring was not done. I told her what owner stated. She would not listen, kept talking. I became frustrated and hung up. Owner called . Requested we talk. When I entered store he directed me to his office, shut the door and proceeded to lose his temper and tried to intimidate me. Seeing this was going nowhere I requested my jewelry and invoice. He would not take my credit card and demanded cash only. Owner was extremely rude and coupled with 22 days lack of fulfillment, his actions weren't warranted. Suffice it to say I will never use his service again.
