Big Time Boba — Restaurant in Lake Wylie

First off a lot of good things to say about ambience and staff here. I love the quirky shop with plenty of seating area and unique decor. It feels like a space where someone can stop by and lounge and chat with their friends while grabbing a drink. The decor does remind me of my dream high school lounge space, but the staff make everyone feel welcome. The teen baristas making my drink were also super smiley and polite. Reading the reviews below, I really respect the owners of this place and how they listen to constructive criticism and therefore I want to see this boba tea shop blossom! However, I hope this review is helpful for those customers expecting for a specific boba experience like I was.

Coming from the experience of drinking Kung Fu tea / Bobababa/ Miguo and other taiwanese influenced tea shops, I was used to a tea experience where the bubble teas boil their own boba and use real milk, quality steeped tea, and fresh fruits. I was nervous to see a lot of the tea options here made with sugar syrups and milk tea powder. Though these powder / syrup combinations do create a sweet drink, having tasted boba drinks that use freshly brewed tea, minimal added sugar, fresh fruits, and real milk, it was difficult for my palette to enjoy the drinks that I ordered.

I found the passionfruit drink and the strawberry drink overly sweet for my palette, and the syrups covered the taste of the tea itself. Most important for me, I did not get any hint of jasmine tea in my drink. Overall I felt like I was drinking a candy.

Hopefully the next time I pass through this place, the shop will offer some more drinks that can carry a great tea flavor profile without relying on syrups...

Used to love coming here, but the past few times the employees have completely messed up the drinks. A few months ago the gentleman left out the sweetener in the Mango Me Crazy making it undrinkable. And this time I asked for a Strawberry Fields Forever with strawberry poppers instead of jellies. The first drink was brown with black jellies, for which she said was due to the matcha (it has never looked like that the dozen of times I have gotten it previously). And the second drink she made had jellies... not poppers, as I had explained that I wanted a few times. I ordered butterfly pea refresher with lemon and peach syrup and lychee topping. 9.5/10 for the flavors, sweetness level, and for the young man with light complexion and dark hair working the register (never got his name). He moved quickly but gave each customer individual attention at the same time. He was so patient, had excellent customer service, and precision mixing drinks. The wait time was extended bc he was the only person working. Honestly, if he had someone to ring up customers, he could have each drink ready as ordered before the customer even pays. There is a trend of 25 min plus wait times I have noticed at many places. Perhaps labor related or something affecting it.
