The Allen street neighborhood center, is not just innovative, and amazing, it is literally (I don't use literally lightly) one of a kind in the US. They have a year round indoor/outdoor farmers market, that has everything from locally grown and processed meat, to mushrooms, and home roasted/processed coffee, not to mention the amazing vegetable selection, and the many locally run food carts/restaurants that sell ready made fare. They are also a food aggregator, that facilitates local food production and distribution. The building contains a fully certified commercial kitchen and baking capabilities. As well as running a long standing free bread distribution program that partners with local bakers to prevent good bread of many different types from getting wasted. This all and it is a center for neighborhood ideas/advancement/aid/fun/and vibrance. José and his staff made us feel right at home, and José came out himself to talk to us about the food and his goals for the restaurant. This is just great cuisine using local ingredients that you're not likely to find anywhere else in the area. Everything we ate was delicious and fresh, from the ceviche to the kale salad.
