I remember Elmer Thomas from years ago and it has been a nice place to walk, go running, take the kids, have get togethers but the duck population is taking from that enjoyment. It's nice to feed them but the park is getting overrun and the carry off to nearby yards and has caused some yards to be not as nice as they once were. I find it challenging to find a spot to sit without having to deal with dropping and often the sidewalks are covered. The old days of just coming up and having a seat on the ground are gone. I have witnessed many times dog owners that pull over and let their animal out to do their buisness and then the animal gets back in and off the driver goes. Same for people walking their dogs. Yes, we can throw blankets down to sit on but will have to tend to the cleaning of that blanket. I for one care about germs and disease especially when children are in involved. Where is some type of balance? When it's time for mating...one has to walk real quick or face being chased down and some people, especially older folks cant do that. And lastly, the trash... I must apologize!! This review was ment for...
Read moreLove the walking trails. Walking there in the springtime when all the baby Prarie Dogs are out playing is a magical time. Fascinating museums and educational opportunities to learn about our Native American history. ( Many very sad lessons in those museums) We don't have young children, so all I can say about the playground areas is that I think this would have been my children's favorite playground when they were young! Lots of wild Canadian geese walking around the lake. My one complaint would be the trash littering the grounds the morning after the July 4th celebration. There were trash receptacles placed every 50 yards or less, and still, people just left trash lying everywhere. SHAME on the people of the Lawton area for being so inconsiderate and uncaring! Kudos to the organizers of the July 4th celebration, which we did not get to attend, but it was apparent that much thought had gone into planning the event and providing ample trash receptacles. We enjoy Lawton and visit often to see our twin granddaughters and our first...
Read moreI thought this park was so beautiful when I first moved to Lawton in the fall. By the end of the summer, I don't feel safe here anymore. I now understand why people gave me dirty looks and ignored me when I said good morning. You don't want to talk to people here. It's like walking around a mental institution inside of a prison. You don't know what people want, you don't know if they are going to verbally or physically attack you, there are some elderly people up here that need supervision. Yesterday, I was walking around with my dogs and pepper spray as a man yelled at me from his car like I was a 20 year old in a sun dress. After that I walked past an elderly couple that attacks me often because they don't like dogs. They seemed over medicated and could hardly look up. My children refuse to go here. I don't know why I went here so long. I understand why people say there is nothing to do in Lawton. We have lots of stuff in this city, but it's all broken or is just plain terrible. I really wish I would have listened to people....
