We have been to this park a few times since it's been open (sometimes the 2 kids with adults and sometimes just 2 adults). The park is of a decent size considering what's around and there's plenty to do. While there are no issues walking on the trail, doing anything else is usually problematic. The biggest problem with the park is the people there so it's recommended to go early as possible to avoid the people in attendance. I have no issues with people conversing or walking, but there's no reason to occupy the entirety or most of of the sidewalk while doing so especially in regards to the former. I would imagine the walking paths were created so wide to accommodate multiple people and multiple ways of people using the path (biking, skating, scooting, etc.) and the places with benches or places to sit or mingle were intended for getting off the trail to chat (maybe I'm mistaken). It's happened a few times now where one of us was scooting or skating, we were approaching a gaggle of conversationalists or family occupying the entirety or most of the sidewalk, they were oblivious, we issued a warning Before our path crossed, and they persisted like a person who stops in a driveway resulting in some unfortunate, easily avoidable accidents. It's my opinion the sidewalk is like the road: it is intended to be shared and for those that are moving. We're usually there after work so it's later in the day. Just sad how oblivious and/or entitled people ruin what could be a great...
Read moreFor being a brand new park in Leander, it is pretty awesome. It has lots of different things for all ages to do. They have a really cool playground with a slide, a small rope tower and swing set. They also have a swing set designed specifically for people that are wheel chair bound. They also have a splash pad that is limited to 75 people at a time. Additionally, they have lifeguards at the splashed to watch over everyone and make sure people are being safe. They also have a outdoor basketball court and volleyball court. They have a fishing pier on the lake so you can catch loads of cool fish. They have a really cool skatepark to do cool skateborad and bicycle tricks. They have kayak and stand up paddle board rentals so you can go paddling on the lake. They have a dog park that is split in three. One for small dogs, and two separate parks for larger dogs. They also have lots of trails, perfect for rollerblading, bike riding, skateboarding, and just jogging. They have a huge circle trail. Each lap around it is half a mile. I highly recommend this place though if you like to be outdoors and spend time with family. It's...
Read moreLakewood Park is a one-for-all park with a playground, splash pad, skate park, fishing pier, dog park, kayak pavilion, and walking trail.
So far, we have only explored the playground and splash pad, but we are already amazed by how much Lakewood Park has to offer!
Lakewood Park has parking lots, multiple covered pavilions, tables and benches, barbeque grills, and even ping-pong tables—all of which are primarily well-designed and well-maintained!
The splash pad is fantastic and free. The only downside is that there's no shade directly above it, so it could be hot in mid-day. Try visiting earlier or later. Also, the rocks surrounding it might be dangerous if your kid loves to run around. Make sure to always keep an eye on them.
The wood mulch playground is more geared to older kids. It has swings, climbing nets, and slides. But the only way to slide is to climb on the nets first, so it's not very friendly to younger kids who are afraid of climbing.
Having more play structures for younger kids and setting up shades in the playground...
