I absolutely love the variety of books that this location has to offer on the history of Leavenworth Kansas. The president of the society Mary Ann is absolutely wonderful to talk to in full of knowledge. I ended up staying there for almost an hour and a 1/2 one particular day and it was worth every single second. Every kid who grew up in Leavenworth has been to the Carroll Mansion at least once. It is not on the base, as one other review stated, so no you don't have to get clearance before you can go there... It is right by Cushing Hospital near Spruce street, and I always have loved going there. The house is full of very cool period pieces and also awesome stories... Spectacular Victorian style home that has been taken care of very meticulously. We did not have time to do the whole tour, but the nice lady that was working offered is a short narrated tour of the first floor. Had a great time, the guide was even dressed the part of someone from the old plains. It usually costs money to my understanding, so call or Google for more info on that part.
