Five (5) stars for the overall appearance of the property, which for most part is very nice, with attractive landscaping and architectural elements. It's probably the best outdoor arrangement of all our local casinos. The interior is also very nicely designed, but... (that's where things start going downhill): when you enter from the garage side, maybe except Saturdays, and walking on the long promenade to the entrance on the casino floor I can't shake the feeling that I'm walking through a funeral home... after hours! Even a funeral home, when they have "clients", is more lively than this place. At RC you go through this long promenade, otherwise very beautiful, but deafening quiet, half of it drowned in very low light, lined up by all empty, long, desolating guest service desks. They're missing on such a great opportunity to walk you through a lively, joyful place, with music and active entertainment, so that, by the time you step onto the casino floor, you're already primed for having a good time while emptying your pockets, regardless what time and day of the week is. But the worst of all is the customer service at the cashier cage. Absolutely a gross insult to casino patrons. The exceptions are so far in between that when there is no line and you walk right up to the window, you instantly start slapping your face to wake up from the dream. Usually the line goes from the cage to the casino entrance, around the corner, through the parking lot and occasionally ends on Alabama street.... You get my point. Many times there are only one - two attendants. Three or more almost never. By the way, there are 9 (NINE!!!) windows. And whoever is at a window, they're moving at snail pace. If you dare to complain, you get a very... professional resolution: "Submit an application for a job", like one young black woman with some facial piercings working the line once responded. It was the same woman who on another occasion, refused to give me service after me complaining that she was serving people who came behind me, just for her to tell me that I was staying in the wrong place in the line. (there is mora than this, but please don't ask, it makes me sick to my stomach just re-living those moments). At one point she called her supervisor to serve me, who also was cold as stone, didn't say a word when I suggested her to review the recording of the event and maybe have a word with her employee. She didn't move a muscle on her face, nor said a single word. I guess some of the bullet points in their job description is to be rude, cold and never-ever smile. Then it's the "Elites" line. I've never seen once a cashier serving the "Elites" asking for the players' card. I don't have a problem with a special line for the "Elites", or upper tier members. Those poor folks most likely dropped fortunes to get that status and they deserve some extra attention. The problem is that many unscrupulous players just go in "Elites" line knowing that no one will ask for their card. I don't know, maybe it happens, I've personally just never seen it. Some of the elite players, while in line, hold their card up to be visible to the regular mortals in the Alabama Street line, and I appreciate them doing that, but none of the ones who don't volunteer to show their card are not being asked for it when they get to the window. All casinos have long lines at the cashiers most of the times, but at least their employees are more compassionate and polite and yeah, they also smile once in a while. You can even hear one apologizing for the long wait, occasionally. What a concept! All but one or two of my experiences at the RC cashier have been horrible. And not just for me. All people in line are upset, aggravated and literally insulted by this, and ultimately, by the management. I always get an infusion of a bitter taste of total disgust. Most likely not...
Read moreHad a wonderful time. The casino at River City knows how to facilitate and manufacture fun. In my opinion and experience, one of the best casinos I have been to, including Las Vegas. It's definitely the best in St. Louis hands down. The concierge at check-in was very professional with a wonderful sense of humor. It was immediately refreshing to start our stay at River City Hotel, a great first impression. She worked the 3rd shift hours on Tuesday night before Thanksgiving. I remember that because we got in later than we hoped, 11pm, due to holiday traffic and long drive after starting the day at 5am. She made us forget about all that. Great face for River City Casino and Hotel. The rooms are well worth the price. Actually, I was surprised how reasonable it cost. I have paid a lot more for way less. I doubt we stay anywhere else when we go to STL. It is apparent they know that people come to a casino to win $$$$ and have fun, but, really, winning is the main goal, isn't it? The games, the layout, and the atmosphere of River City Casino have a feel of winning the second walking in. From my observation (people watching), everyone was laughing and smiling, and the sounds of the slot machines the whole place was winning. The timing of and percentage of bet versus payout is masterfully crafted to ensure all will have fun. You will be given a chance to go home with more than you came with, but of course, that is up to you. We did not come leave rich, but modest winnings for sure. I truly believe this casino wanted everyone to win. If anyone didn't go home a winner that night, they had a great time. I give 5 stars because it was 5 star fun. With the exception of one employee, a supervisor in the cage area where you would go to get your players' cards, I would highly recommend this place. The supervisor should find a job somewhere else or escort her out the door. Her inability to understand there was communication and understanding, with a customer appalling. I hate to end with this, but you may want to bring flash cards for her. She needs to feel how she made a customer feel for just...
Read moreBeautiful place. I frequently go out there. Distance is approximately 6hrs away from home. But was given comp room & meals along with some free slot play for a few days. Being that it was my husband & I'd 27 yrs wedding anniversary we took our host Randall Marshall up on it. Best guy every we emailed back n forth making the best reservation and planning out for a surprise for my veteran husband.. Beautiful Room and dinner at the 1094 Steakhouse. Kelly (Kelsie) at the front desk was so friendly, helpful and a beautiful smile.. It was a little packed for me but great for business. Overall I personally had a great time.
NOW..... Dinner at the steakhouse was HORRIBLE!!!!! Felt so disrespected by our waitress MARY.. that after that we ended our stay and left 2 days early. She new we were a COMP meal. Regardless if it was comp. Took our order. Husband ordered Steak & Asparagus , I had chicken Alfredo & Salad. Once our order was taken until salad was placed, our waitress never checked on drinks. When our order came out. They had forgotten the Asparagus and she kinda argued with my husband saying he didn't order it. Finally realizing she went back and literally within second returned with a plate of asparagus that was cold hard and disgusting. The steak was tough. She never refilled our drinks or offered. Never offered appetizers nor dessert. Over heard conversation between her & whoever in back room. Saying "it's just a comp no big deal" Well Mary let me tell you something. That COMP meal was and had been definitely paid for 15 x over. We deserved that!!! $150.00 comp meal and our meal came to $82.00 That was
