note: this was voice typed, so excuse any errors, lol. I wanted to love it. I even joined as a member and worked out there a couple times a week. Admittedly their Workout side is awesome, like the parts where you use exercise equipment or go running. The family locker rooms are stellar too. however the main reason I joined was to swim laps. And at first I was wowed by the appearance of the pool. However I soon realized that they don’t have nearly enough laps and we run the risk of having to share it with somebody else, which is incredibly awkward to do-- especially for females, the last thing I wanna do is have to brush shoulders with a male as we swim by each other. Aside from that— The temperature of the water, other than the wellness pool, is absurdly cold. The wellness pool is the temp everyone wants (or even a few degrees cooler!) so it's always packed when we're there. My son is a fish when it comes to getting in water and warming up; he’s never cold for long because he gets used to it. However we have been to the pool for his birthday party as well as another couple of times for free swim and each time the same thing happens: his little lip quivers the entire time and he uses most of his energy jumping up and down until we go to the wellness pool— which is always packed (gee, think it is because we don’t turn to ice cubes in there?)
We even tried to do the lazy river backwards five times in hopes we would warm up — but no dice. And anytime I asked if he wanted to go back, he said he did not because he was too cold. We have since talked to several other families and learned they canceled their memberships after a couple of months for the same reason and one of them still has the membership but no longer uses the pool because their kiddo is Under a year old, and her lips actually turn blue after being in the water for 20 minutes there. If we’re gonna be spending so much money as tax payers in general and then more money on the membership, plus having to pay extra property taxes every year to cover the added property value that the complex has brought to us… That Pool should be at least 6 to 8° warmer. I always thought the YMCA water was too cool for working out but at least you could warm up in it by the time you do a lap!
I know it probably cost more money to keep it warmer but you'd gain more money because more people would go. We cancelled our membership and I’m really disheartened because I thought finally I found a pool I could use for swimming for low impact exercising. But the discomfort is just not worth it. Especially in the cooler months when being cold and wet is literally the least appealing state of being.
Please let me know if you ever invest in a temperature worthy of humans who don't want perma-goose bumps! We'll be back! Until then...we'll just join a cheap gym for the ellipticals and find a neighbor with a pool we can swim...
Read moreCelebrating with family and friends for nephews birthday. Party room was good. But we reserved the gym with two bouncy houses. The staff did not set that up and told the kids as we were walking there there is no bouncy houses. After we went up to the desk to get that fixed the staff tried to deflect even though we have receipts showing we paid for those. After 20 minutes they finally set up one bouncy house (keep in mind we have limited time for the gym) and when we brought up the second one he ( staff Connor ) tried to argue us on it. Connor S. literally huffed and rolled his eyes at us then looked to his two grey t shirt staff members and huffed lets go get it. It’s okay if you make a mistake, but say sorry and rectify it, don’t get rude and spiteful to the customers. This could have been blown up for the kids the moment we let them know. The second one is just now blown up and we are 40 minutes into our reservation. Kids now have 30 minutes to bounce. He did come back to apologize but added again that “we should have received a phone call” we told him we did but it was a message that was a confirmation of the party. Parents of the birthday boy were upset that we had to deal with a staff error instead of enjoying their boys birthday. Hopefully they will do better in the future. Once the bouncy houses were up the kids had a blast. The ninja turtle one is great to get the...
Read moreModern facility but with some serious errors in the design and concept. THe pickleball courts downstairs that are available for non members with a reasonable fee, are very congested and with too low roof, not suitable for good players. They have a huge gym in the second floor with ample space that is totally misused with only two volley/basket courts (they could fit at least 4 volleyball courts in that space). But the worst is that their fee system does not work well to have sports in the main gym (volleyball, basketball or even pickle ball) as they require membership or a full day pass, at a non competitive price. Too expensive daily passes (about $10) deter non members from going there for sports, there is no organization (levels) for volleyball or basketball. End result is that the courts are empty most of the time or used almost exclusively for pickleball or shooting hoops. Ping pong only table is at a location (main lobby) that deters any good player from using it and (again) no organized system for its use, hit and miss if children will be playing there. Unfortunate that Lenexa has such nice facilities (Community Center and Rec Center) and people chose to go and play somewhere else (Shawnee, Roeland Park, Olathe, etc.) due to bad or inexistent programs. Quite...
