I had plans to meet up with some girlfriends for dinner and they wanted to go to the Public Market. I'm vegan, so I always scout menus before going anywhere and I saw an appetizing bowl labeled vegan, but when I got there tonight it was no longer on the menu. The person working there said they had just removed it, but that they could make the vegetarian bowl vegan with a couple modifications. Immediately my expectations lowered because that left the meal consisting of potatoes, onions, bell peppers, salsa and guac. I try not to be too picky when I dine at places that kindly try to accommodate, but it was one of the worst meals I've ever had. The guac was some weird paste-textured avocado spread that tasted wildly expired and the potatoes reflected the name of the place, they were grossly dried out cardboard chunks. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised the the potatoes were just leftover from ones they prepared 5 hours before. Wildly disappointing, especially for the cost and tip that I gave. I was so hungry that I ate over half of it, but I instantly started to feel nauseated and here I am 2 hours later still with a very sour stomach burping that crap up. The atmosphere and staff were lovely, but the food is atrocious. I can't believe they think sending something like that out from the kitchen is acceptable. Wish I could get...
Read moreAte here today. Been a long time public market customer. As an avid board game player, I was excited about the concept... But the execution was horrible. The food at cardboard cafe was gross, overpriced, and the bread, chips, and pita were all stale and hard. I even paid extra to add avocado to a sandwich and instead of actual avocado slices they smeared a razor thin layer of green paste. It may have been made with avocados but that’s straight up false advertising to call it avocado and not an avocado spread. I’d never pay $2 for a smearing of avo spread. Update your menu to reflect it’s not actual avocado. They also spilled chips off of the platter and instead of throwing them away they put it back which is unsanitary. I will be returning to the public marketplace for the small family owned booths. Not a dollar more to this place unless they make fresh food with fresh ingredients. Totaled $24 on food that was stale, unhygienically handled, and eventually ended up...
Read moreI've been a fan of the Cardboard Corner Cafe on Metcalf for a while, and so I wanted to check this place out after I heard it had opened. I think it's a great new twist on the classic, with a different menu and a great environment.
The Apple Gouda sandwich is a masterpiece, and I highly recommend trying it out. Also been a fun time going through the Boba menu, getting to try different combinations and enjoying the results.
Staff has always been attentive and helpful, and it's clear they enjoy their jobs. I don't believe this spot has been open for too long, but it seems like everyone is taking to it well. Lot of families and friends posting up to play board games and table top games.
Superb environment, food, and service; hard to ask for...
