The Campus Theatre on Market Street in downtown Lewisburg is a charming piece of history that beautifully captures the essence of mid-century cinema. Originally built in the 1940s, this theater showcases several elements of art deco design that have been lovingly maintained and restored, thanks to the support of Bucknell University.
Though we didn’t catch a movie during our visit, we had the pleasure of touring the facility after a show. The interior of the theater is absolutely stunning, combining comfort with a nostalgic atmosphere that transports you back to the heyday of going out to the movies. It’s a beautiful space that truly enhances the experience of film-watching.
The theater continues its tradition of showing a variety of films while also incorporating digital screenings, which is a nice blend of old and new. The large screen ensures that every movie is a treat for the eyes, and the ambiance really makes you feel like you’re stepping back in time.
Additionally, the typical food court offers all the classic movie snacks, like popcorn and drinks, making it easy to indulge while enjoying a film.
A unique feature of the Campus Theatre is the apartment available for rent as an Airbnb. This adds a special touch, allowing guests to stay right in the heart of this historic venue and experience the charm of Lewisburg firsthand.
Overall, the Campus Theatre is a local treasure on Market Street, rich in history and character. It’s a great stop for anyone who appreciates the charm of classic cinema and wants to experience a piece of Lewisburg’s...
Read moreThis place was a hidden treasure!! I came into town for work and was looking for something to do when I saw that they were showing a free screening of the movie "The Tingler" staring Vincent Price. The place looked very small at first front the concessions stand in the front and only one theater room, but to my surprise this place was massive and beautiful. I was in awe of how beautiful this old historic theater was.
The screening was put on by Bucknell University film school or a film class cause a professor came up and gave us a background of the film. The film was black and white and a bit on the cheesy side, but I had one of the best movie experiences that night. It was interactive, and one of the actors in the class screamed at the same time as a part of the film, which made it more interesting. If I ever come back this way, I will make sure to stop by. If you get a chance, stop by this magic place and support the arts. Thank you too, the staff and film class, for an...
