Be aware - first off, no where on this parks website, (that I could find), did it say NO Dogs allowed, so I had taken my best fur friend on a 35 minute ride to go check out what is supposed to be one of ten botanical gardens in the state of Illinois. Second, there are signs everywhere near this park that say no parking, will be towed....from the church and library parking lot right across the street from the park, to the parking spaces at the train station on the other side of the park. In fact, it looks like the best way to get here is to take the train if you don't want the hassle of parking blocks away and walking. Since I couldn't go into the park, due to my four legged friend, we opted to walk the neighborhood block around the park. Doing this it's approximately .62 miles to make the circle. You can only see the park from two sides walking the block, but you can also see the little girl statue on one side of the small library, plus some beautiful houses along the way. There was also a statue in the parking lot of what I think was a church/school, close to the train tracks. I'm sure this is probably a nice little park once the flowers start to bloom, and I've heard they have a nice Christmas lights display each winter, but if you are looking for a good walk to really streach your legs, go to another Botanical garden that...
Read moreI tried to get to this park for several years right as the bloom meter said the lilacs were in full bloom and this year I made it. I signed up on the website to keep me informed of when they were going to be in bloom and I made it! The day was beautiful. My mother, my daughter and I spent time wandering around through all the paths, looking at all the beautiful flowers, taking very beautiful pictures and making lots of great memories. There were lots of families taking professional photos, couples spending time together and people just getting out and enjoying the park as we were which made the atmosphere of the park very inviting and peaceful. The smell of the lilacs and flowers were a great start to Spring. The park would be a beautiful place for a wedding, a small get-together, sitting and reading a book with a cup of tea or just getting some exercise. Overall, we loved the park and will return again...
Read moreA BEAUTIFUL place to visit ANY time of the year. In the spring you have all the flowers and wonderful lilacs with family activities (however my favorite event is the wine tasting), the summer has family movie nights and more, the autumn has all the beautiful colors and harvest themed events, and the winter has the holiday lights and holiday activities with the beauty of a winter wonderland. The walking paths are designed to immerse you into the park and do so well that you forget you are tucked into the downtown area. It just always has a magical feel. There are always great events to check out! And its FREE ADMISSION!(*some events may have a fee to participate, but entering the park is free) It is open 365 days a year! A great place for a wedding, photo shoot, picnic, or even just a stroll. This really is a community gem in the heart...
