Lookout Mountain Visitor Center and Park was an excellent experience overall. Of course if I had my way the entire battlefield would be park land and open for touring, but even the (relatively) small park is well worth seeing, even if for the view of the city alone. That said, there's much more than the view to be enjoyed! The rangers are knowledgeable, and excellent storytellers - particularly Jeremy! We had an adventure on our hands when we went there - Ranger Jeremy was talking us through the battle for Lookout Mountain (as well as some background; the Chattanooga Campaign overall), when it started raining. We took shelter under the New York monument, and the rain really picked up; it was a storm. Undaunted, Jeremy continued the story, with the wind and rain howling around us, thunder cracking in the distance! The lightning got closer and we wound up making a run for the Visitor Center along with the group, Jeremy making sure we all made it safely, and finishing the story inside as we waited for the worst of the storm to pass. Overall it was one heck of a memorable experience, certainly one I and my family will never forget! 10/10 views, 12/10 storytelling, priceless memories.

What an amazing park. A small but nice visitor center had an amazing original mural painting that was incredible. An informative video that explains critical facts about the battle and how it played out is also played there. It does cost 5 dollars to get in the park but it is well worth it. If you just like nature and incredible views, the park has many trails and spectacular views. If you are a history buff, you get all that and some great Civil War history on the “Death Knell of the Confederacy. GPS guidance to the top of the hill can seem confusing, and the roads are small and twisty, but it will get you there and it’s worth it.

If you area local you know to park at the bottom of thr hill amd walk the trail and not pay that $20 dollars to get into this park which the views seem to be lacking in the clouds. Huge rip off in my eyes just like anything to do with the government. Only come in Winter or fall. The vegetation is thick. Wasnt much of a battle anyway seeing how the confederates ran as soon as the yankees started coming up the hill so why all thr small monuments i have no idea. We went up the old fashioned way in the rain just like the Yankees did in the battle of the clouds. The trail is needing lots of care. Certain spots near the top are dangerous. You really dont have to follow the signs here. Up takes you simply to the top and down will takes you where you should park.

Point Park is peaceful and memorable, you can imagine yourself in the soldiers shoes while walking around looking out over the city of Chattanooga and the surrounding countryside. It was a key point as it had an uninterrupted view of the Tennessee River among other strategic sights. It is the Northern terminus of the Lookout Mountain which starts in Alabama, goes through Georgia ending in Tennessee. The mountain has a wide range of activities from Ruby Falls inside the mountain, the incline tramcars, rock climbing, Point Park for your enjoyment. It was a memorable place for us and we enjoyed it thoroughly.

The visitor center offers short videos, displays, some artifacts, and a huge original painting of the battle fought nearby. For a small fee you can enter the park. A tour is offered twice per day. I would recommend the tour to get much information that is not given in the visitor center. Many trails, monuments and plaques fill the park which opened 30 years after the end of the Civil War--the first of its kind. It provides spectacular views if there is no fog.

Beautiful place and views. However, the visitor center is limited on what they carry. No commemorative coins like other parks. Also they do not take cash, cards only. If you try a search for Lookout mountain it will not come up on Garmin for this location. Signs in the neighborhood have been removed for it. They do refer to Pointe Park however. Just not a good vibe from the neighborhood watch for tourists.
