Love the play equipment -- amazing large climbing/sliding structure with musical percussion features. Very large sand areas provide lots of room to dig and a safe space for swings and some great ride-on play structures such as a teeter-totter and spring-bouncing mini-dinosaurs. Sand play is enhanced by the availability of water at a bathroom with outdoor sink and water spigot. Kids love the two working excavators; sadly, as of this writing, one is missing a very necessary bolt, so it's not working well. Hope to see it repaired soon, as it's a real favorite. Ice cream truck regularly visits. The vendor is polite and thoughtful, very kind to the children. The bathrooms are usable, though less than perfectly clean; bring wipes and pack your own toilet paper. Some adults without access to their own homes sometimes sleep in the park and use the facilities. They tend to avoid the play areas and rest on benches which line a path through a very large, well-maintained grass field dotted with trees. Friendly neighborhood families with young children come and go, usually sharing toys and play equipment happily. A great park right on the 166 bus line, which stops at the corner. Be aware that the Westbound bus tends to arrive 5-7 minutes ahead of schedule at the stop at Amestoy...
Read moreNeighborhood park in an upscale area which has been overrun by everyone from about Van Nuys Blvd. west for parties - many of which appear to be catered events with inflatables and rented tables and tents and lights and amplified music, none of which is allowed but this park does not have an office onsite so there's no one to enforce the rules. That's why this park is so busy with un-allowed activities, the other large nearby parks (Northridge Rec, Petit) have offices. On weekdays it's popular with homeless due to the many shade trees and bathrooms. There is a big new handicap accessible playground, plus a basketball court and tennis courts. Soccer is not allowed here and to prevent it there are boulders placed in the open fields, still doesn't entirely stop it and sometimes soccer is practiced on the tennis courts despite signage to the contrary. The courts are not lit, in contrast to the description above. So it's a decent neighborhood park which is serving a much larger area than its intended neighborhood, and could use some supervision. It is routinely maintained, however, you'll see a ranger cleaning the trash left behind from the weekend on Mondays, and the tennis nets have just been replaced - it's not being neglected,...
Read moreThis is one of the most wonderful neighborhoods I have visited in all of my travels. The blossom covered trees litter the land in beauty and color, this part of town is a very low key paradise, not far from the water. Easily a walkable area for visitors like myself, I could not have enjoyed my stay here anymore than I did. The people are questionably friendly at first seeing as how I am from Texas. They have a special kind of Lassez faire and I'm hooked, I'm looking forward to coming back and spending money in this community. Cool air, sunshine, you can wear whatever you want outside and feel cooler than you've ever been during the summer. This is a paradise at the bottom of a mountain, with trails that can lead you to the top. Just get out and walk around, everything is just awe inspiring. Take a uber around the neighborhood and look at the old Spanish architecture. Even saw a 30ft fig tree, which means it's been their undisturbed for atleast 30 years.. that truly says a lot to me. The bees are buzzing around so be careful, butnthats a sight for sore eyes anyhow. Make that...
