I have lived in LA for nearly three decades and knew about this place for nearly two of them. Sadly, I never made the pilgrimage until this past week. I was by the airport and art starved. The gallery I most visit had not had a new show in some time and honestly, the last year plus have not been stellar. I carved out some time and drove down Jefferson via Culver CIty. I knew was in for something good when I started to spot some murals on route. I am always enlightened by the random happenstance of the great gift of public art when executed well. I found a space right across the street (by an amazing mural and big shout out to @trekthunderkelly. You have to visit Thinkspace to see the large wall because it is not online! I had no idea what to expect as per size and scope. I don't like to spoil visits by looking at the show online. I was really pleased by the size very spacious and a very strong mix of low brow (reminiscent of my prior favorite gallery via former curator from years back). I found a new artist that immediately went to the top ten tier of low brow artists. I brow beat myself for not coming sooner but I do live over in the Valley and I have a demanding job and business on the side so, I have to give myself some reprieve. The fact of the matter is there are a lot of galleries and sometimes even ones I don't visit will have someone I really like and so, some is left to chance but this gallery seems to deliver consistent top quality and name 'loow brow' artists. I will make more of an effort to drop into more shoes when out near West LA because I would deem it worthwhile and also add in some art hunting while in this uninvestigated (at least by me) area. The neighborhood is gentrified and gives a Los Feliz meets Highland Park (York Blvd) vibe. You hit pay dirt if this...
Read moreThinkspace Projects has a great environment and vibe that supports artists and art enthusiasts. There was enough room to see all of the art on both floors and go see the gallery next door. The outside courtyard area was perfect to have private conversations with the artists and connect with fellow art enthusiasts. This gallery is curated beautifully and everything is presented in a professional manner. I do like the projections and music outside. It was a great place to support the local art community and hang out with...
