Although I've been in the area for 8 years I never realized how close Walt's Barn is or how cool it would be. It's deceptive, too: a small area with a barn, a couple other small buildings (one created as a train depot for kids of one of Walt's old buddies, so no wonder it's small!), and a few engines. But the historical artifacts in the barn and rail engines and the wealth of stories that the many employees have are amazing, and the train ride around the park is actually quite long and features over a dozen sites, some miniatures and others nearly full sized, like the bridges and tunnels.
Carolyn and Jeff told us great snippets of history and little known lore, and lucky for us, wandering the grounds were the original Tinker Bell, Margaret Kerry, and one of the third generation Imagineers, Fleming. These lovely folks shared their extensive, personal history with Walt, his companies, and the trains here at the barn, which really blew us away. Just an amazing place, well worth the visit. Make sure to talk to the (many) hosts and cast members here; you'll learn something...
Read moreSaw an event going on and put on my calendar. So before Walt Disney built Disneyland he was really into trains and built a few tracks at his home. Trains were big enough to ride around. He had a barn where he did all his work in. This historic barn was moved to current location and rebuilt. It’s a museum. You can visit and actually see memorabilia of Disney and his trains. There are some model trains and even a scale of the different gauges. You’re able to walk thru the barn. Outside in a nearby building there is a ‘combine’ that was used when Disneyland was opened with much historical photos and information. Basically another mini museum. As you look around there are a few mini trains being ridden. Come to find out you can go around the fence and actually ride them. Great...
Read morevery cool experience. the barn itself had a wait to get in. it can move slowly because there are people that will look at and read every single information card. i loved the model of natures wonderland and how disneyland looked back then in that area. the people working there are very nice and knowledge. i went today for a book signing with becky cline and i’ve wanted to go for years. i’ve also been dying for some merch to look at.. there’s nothing online to look at or buy. i took pictures so people have an idea of what there is to purchase. there are no real bathrooms.. just portable toilets really. that’s not ideal but better than...
