Right across the street from the Lobster House, grabbed some seafood and then headed over to the boat.
It's a couple hours, definitely felt long enough, and we were blessed with great weather for our ride.
Inside they had some complementary pizza and hot dogs, and drinks and (I think) other food for purchase. Plenty of staff, including people on deck to keep an eye on guests for safety.
The boat itself had multiple floors and lots of seating inside, outside, and outside/covered. Excellent views all around, and the prow of the boat had a small walkway with a grated floor so you could see down into the water.
Initially the boat went out along the protective sea walls that jut into the ocean, slowly making loops and we encountered many groups of dolphins. They were pretty close to the boat and there were plenty of photo ops. While we were among the dolphins, a crew member narrated information about dolphins, porpoises, and general history about Cape May and landmarks...this continued the entirety of the voyage, and was easy to hear even with my terrible hearing and was enjoyable.
After some time, the boat turned south and cruised around the entire beachfront of Cape May, turned in where the Delaware-NJ ferry docks, and back through the channel to where we started from.
This part there was a short period of sprinting which splashed the front deck a small amount, but nothing bad if you were amenable to being a bit wet, and you could always retreat to the inside or higher deck. They warned before they sped up.
I enjoyed seeing Cape May from a completely new angle (to me), and riding down the channel is something I don't think many would see otherwise...very enjoyable. Photo below was watching the sun set across the ocean when were were traveling the length of the main beach.
It was not cheap, but we considered it quite enjoyable and everyone in our party said they'd recommend it to others without reservation. I'd certainly take the...
Read moreI went out on the whale watch yesterday with a friend. The staff was very friendly and informative as we waited to board the boat you could sit inside where it was warm where sit outside. They were very careful about providing us safety information that if we were going to be standing outside that we must always hold on to something the waves in the ocean and the wind affect the movement Of the boat and safety is one of their main concerns. Once we were pretty far out in the ocean we were able to start seeing some dolphins and the captain always got us as close as we could to see them and have pictures but to respect the distance that we needed to keep away so we would not be intruding in their feeding area.. He stayed so everyone had enough time to take some pictures . They always announced which side of the boat when things were spotted and gave everyone ample time to look. We were out for hours as the captain continued to find Dolphins and search for the whales that we wanted to see. We finally someone finally spotted a whale in the distance and the captain headed us that way and we were able to watch it for quite a long time as it moved and we moved slowly giving it lots of distance . It was a wonderful experience seeing the waterspouts And when the whale would breach we could see that go up and then back in the tail the last thing we saw as a back in the water. It was a great trip we learned a lot and it we got to see what we went for thanks to the captain and the staff...
Read moreToday, my hubby and I celebrated our 17th anniversary on the Cape May Whale Watcher. I couldnât give the experience a perfect 5 because we saw no whales but everything else made this a PERFECT 4. Iâll explain.
When we arrived, highly visible crew people in red tee-shirts helped us park in a free parking lot. Then we went to the gift shop to get our boarding passes. The waiting area was a set of comfortable picnic tables with giant board games.
Once we all boarded we were on our way. The captain made announcements that we mostly heard but an upgraded sound system could make it clearer. He spoke of the various marine life that was under the boat.
The boat itself was very comfortable. There were ample indoor and outdoor seats. Hubby and I chose to sit outside. Shortly into our journey we encountered a pod of playful dolphins. They were frolicking in fun ways that delighted us. Like the captain said, they wonât pose for us but it was fun to be in community with them. Then the captain strove to find some whales for us to hang out with but I guess the whales chose to stay underwater when we went. It was a little disappointing but I appreciated the efforts made.
I also loved just being out on the water. The crew was very capable and the ride was so smooth. I saw a few folks catching relaxing naps. Including my neighborâs toddler. The water tends to lull folks.
Hubby and I loved the trip and would...
