tl;dr - Great place, great service, great beer variety, poor beer availability, great food menu variety, so-so food flavoring.
JT Walker's is a hard place to review - I want to love it, I really do. It has a fantastic building and atmosphere -- with the sports bars, barrel room, and tap room -- the service is attentive and helpful, and the beer (& cider) selection is one of the best in the area, if not the state.
Or at least, it would be, if the options were in stock. I understand the options I was trying for have huge demand - Black Fang Mead, Zombie Killer Cider, Bourbon Barrel Aged Ale - but without them having a presence on an app like Untapped, it's a hit or a miss whether the drink you want is on stock.
But even that could be forgiven if the food could hold its own. I tried the tropical burger -- a simple beef patty (requested medium rare), topped with grilled pineapple and a pepper sauce. The patty came out well done and barely seasoned, the pineapple was small and flavorless, and the pepper sauce not noticeable. I can't say anything bad about the burger, but it was just so mediocre I'm hard pressed to say anything good about it. At least the fries were good.
Hopefully I can update this review with something more positive if I come back a second time, because I really do want to like...
Read moreI ate here about three weeks ago with some friends. The seating area was a fun sports bar setting and very clean and new. Unfortunately, that was about the only good thing of the experience.
The service was very slow because they apparently had one cook (who was also bartending) and one waitress. It seems they were caught off guard by the traffic because there were at least 20 people trying to eat and drink there. I remember people in my group commenting on how a couple had been seated 30 minutes ago, but still had not had their drink orders taken.
By the time we were leaving a few more waitresses and I think another cook had arrived. But, that was after we had been sitting there for an hour and 45 minutes (much, much too long).
The food was decent, but the portions were too small and the prices were way too high. They have several specialty burgers and I remember realizing that the only difference between two of these specialties was that one was $2 more and the cheese was colby jack instead of american. What a rip off.
The food tasted pretty good, but everyone in my group was put off by the tiny portions and ridiculous price. I think we paid about $40 for two dinners. I would not recommend this place and I highly doubt I'll give them a try again for a...
Read moreNot only is this the best place to eat in Mahomet, but it may be the best place to eat in the Champaign/Urbana area. Their dinner menu is ultra impressive. They have a lot of unique menu items, and nearly everything we've tried has been extremely tasty. since starting the Keto diet a year ago, it can be challenging to find a place with Keto options. JT Walker has many Keto-friendly items on their menu. They are all so very willing to make substitutions when necessary. Pre keto, We also enjoyed many of their other menu options as well, including their own brand of beer. The atmosphere is great, and the only downside I can think of is that it can get very busy in there because it's so good. The staff is always been extremely friendly and courteous to us, even when it's very busy. And while the lunch and dinner menus are very good, don't rule them out for breakfast. They definitely have the best breakfast in Mahomet. I really wish they would have more live entertainment on...
