My wife and I were a little under-prepared for Thanksgiving this year. While I tried to cover us with a trip to Schnucks at 9:50pm the night before, my wife was reaching out to local restaurants and finding no options (as we rightfully should have had this addressed way beforehand). My wife ON THANKSGIVING MORNING reached out to Project 47 to see if maybe they had an extra turkey we could buy. While they didn't have any Turkeys, they did have some sliced turkey. She jumped in the car, shot over to mahomet and they had a nice little bundle of turkey and sides waiting for her. It more than covered us and our family. LIFE. SAVERS. I could smell the turkey as soon as it hit the door. It tasted even better than it smelled. Juicy, smokey, peppery goodness. The sauces they provided were a wonderful complement to the turkey as well. The macaroni and cheese was great too! The potato salad and turkey made a great 1-2 punch for me! This morning I grabbed a little of the leftover turkey and threw it in my cast iron to warm up and made some scrambled eggs for the family, the turkey is just as flavorful and juicy as it was yesterday. It's a hit, AGAIN. My kids can be picky eaters but they attacked this turkey. If you're in Mahomet and hungry, make your way to Project 47. If you aren't in Mahomet and you're hungry, it's worth the drive from just about anywhere! We will absolutely be...
Read moreLove the booths! Meats were awesome. Sampled pulled pork and Heinkle. Sadly, pit beans lacked flavor. Tasted primarily like beer and was watery. Not good for a premium side. I’m expecting some bbq or brown sugar in there and a thicker consistency. Cole slaw had zero flavor. Just a lot of bland Mayo. Corn muffin was hard and dry and overcooked. Drinks were nice and large! Service was excellent. They even brought us samples of their sauces upon request. I don’t think they need to charge $3 for those though. A lot of bbq joints have the various sauces right on the table. This place would be 5 stars for me with those 4 improvements. Could have made the difference between coming back regularly for us. Everyone who likes corn bread, pit beans and slaw would find these items lacking. I would urge some tweaking of things and you would get more repeat business. We are from out of town but would definitely come back if it weren’t for those things. Sorry, just an honest review of me and my...
Read moreMy wife and I drove over from Champaign to try out Project 47 because we had heard good things, and the Google reviews are pretty good too. This restaurant didn't come close to living up to the hype. We started with cheese curds, which were the standard frozen variety I can make at home. My BBQ chicken was good, but the pork was very fatty. Compared to other BBQ in the area the the sauces were average. The mac and cheese side was phenomenal, but the baked beans were sub-par and tasted too much like beer. The smoked apple pie was delicious as well. The mac and pie are the only reasons there are two stars on the rating. When the bill came we were floored to see a number over $50 for two people. For those prices I can go to a much nicer restaurant that at the very least uses real silverware and not plastic. Save your money and your taste buds and try one of the BBQ places in...
