I gave the hair salon a star due to how welcoming the employees were. After the consultation, my hairstylist immediately put my dirty, tangled, 4c hair in the sink to get washed without any detangling beforehand. After tearing through my wet hair with the comb, she put my hair under the dryer. She did not try to stretch my hair/ends beforehand, by twisting/or even sectioning it. This resulted in my hair getting re-tangeled all over again, once my hair became 100% dry. In its brittle state, she used the blow dryer with the attached comb to re-separate the strands. No detangler/liquid used, she did this on 100% dry 4c hair. She spent a lot of time working on one small portion of my head, trying to de-tangle the work she had already done in the sink. The other hairstylist next to us gave her a tip that she should have twisted my ends to stretch it prior to starting the drying process, to avoid the excessive tangles.
With the excessive amount of time it had taken to detangle that small section, as well as the pain that was setting in, they allowed me to quickly stretch the rest of my own hair with the blow drier. We ended up going far past the time I had set my appointment for. The salon makes you pay for everything upfront before you start. Because the appointment went much longer than it was supposed to, I had to leave, which means my trim and cornrows were not able to get done. I was told I would have to make another appointment with that same hairdresser since I had paid already. I called the same day to talk to the manager. A hairdresser told me she would let her know I called and will have her call me back that same day. I never got a call back. A couple weeks later, I called the manager on the phone to tell her about not feeling comfortable going back to that hairdresser to finish my appointment. She did care to know about how displeased I was about the hairdressers technique she had used. Instead, she spent the whole time talking about the liability issue they had faced because they let me blow dry my own hair in the salon. Which I did not understand the purpose for, as they themselves were the ones who had offered to let me do that, because they noticed the pain I was in. This made me feel unheard, and uncared for.
She did not want to pay back any portion of my money, even though I did not end up doing all the services I paid for. Giving the full amount of money before any service had been done, and to a salon I had never been to, was where I faulted. Iām sure her techniques of hair washing/drying may work great on other people, but I do not feel like my hair was catered to, and in the time I was expecting. Though they seemed kind, they did not make me feel cared for, and the technique she used felt very inappropriate for my hair...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI rarely leave reviews but I wanted to say something about this salon. I'm giving JJ's Salon 3 stars not because their quality of work was necessarily poor, or because the staff was rude, but because of their poor advertising in terms of price. I booked a silk press expecting to pay around $95-110, which is already outside of my budget but I was unable to find another place that was cheaper, however, I ended up paying closer to $200 for a very standard silk press that I could have gotten for $60. (which i have out of town, and the quality of work was exceptional) I still am extremely frustrated about how much I spent, and although I was a first time client, I think the $20 consultation fee should have been waived, or included, since I went ahead with the service. Additionally, the price breakdown of $175 seemed quite arbitrary (the trim was a fixed $20, however the other factors were not explained well), so I would suggest that it be be more thorough for clients going forward, especially since my hair is not too long (bit shorter than shoulder length - i understand it is more dense but an extra $60 because of my density and length doesn't make sense nor was it explained when I asked). I live out of town, however, I unfortunately will not be returning to this salon if I ever need a silk press in the area because I ended up paying significantly more than expected for a very average service in all honesty. I am also from out of the country and was not roaming, so if I had the ability to call first, i'm sure i would have been more prepared, however, i can't change the past but if I read a review like this it would have helped me make my decision/ be more weary. Despite this, the women at the salon were a lot of fun, focused and kind, and if I were more prepared for the pricing, I would've...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went here last minute for a WASH and BLOW DRY. I was charged $160 I still had dandruff after my hair washed and my hair was not completely dried. I just donāt understand why I was charged so much.
8/20/2021 Why would I lie and say I wasn't serviced here and I was!! I CERTAINLY WISH IT WAS A LIE!! I WISH I NEVER STEPPED FOOT IN THIS SHOP!! And I actually spoke with a member of your management a couple of days after I was serviced!! I'm not on/in your books because I was considered a "Walk-In" my name is KELA if you desire to go back on your books/files. I live on Emerson St. walking distance from your shop. Your shop was the closest to my house and that's why I came. Who in their right mind would take time out to LIE about their service. Hater I've never been, if this is a black business I pray you get better at conducting "Your Business" and not just over charging people!! Don't accuse me of being a liar, do better at conducting your business and you wouldn't have this problem!! You sound crazy, I was never there... NO!! Whoever responded back to my review WASN'T THERE OBVIOUSLY!! And money wasn't the issue either, but after I left your shop I felt like my money was stolen from me. Like I said my hair was not fully blow dried, it was still damped when I left!! I didn't receive any sort of hair treatment such as, deep conditioner then the dryer, no trim or anything to have paid $160. for anyone thinking of going here my hair was about 5 to 6 inches long in a afro state when I was serviced here. I don't even have $160 worth of hair lol!! So if your hair is any longer then mine, be ready to pay more!! And the young lady who did my hair her name was Melissa, since I'm such a Lier/ hater!! Her vibe/Customer service was great, the bright side of my...
