TPS helped me grow as an athlete and become strong inside and out. When I set the goal of competing in a strongman competition, I knew I would need guidance and a supportive community to achieve that goal. You don't always find both in the same place, but TPS provides that and MORE! I gained knowledge my from coach Mike as well as the other staff Murph, Erica, Candace, Matt, Russ, and Phil to name a few. When I reached out inquiring for training, I was immediately responded to and connected with a coach I could work with the same week. I not only signed up personal training but stuck with it for my entire length of membership time because it played such a vital role in my overall well-being.
I learned what it meant to be strong both inside and out because you simple cannot just "look strong" to be a strong man competitor, you have to BE STRONG! They all prepared me physically and mentally for my events and for each of my personal best record attempts in every lift I wanted to excel in. Many of my viewpoints on strength were challenged which is great because how else can you grow as an athlete if you are not learning?! Double win. Not to mention all the awesome members who also train there and love to take others under the wing and offer tips and advice on how to crush your lifts or simply egg you on as you attempt a PR.
The support they provided during the pandemic with training blocks designed around the equipment I had helped me cope with my own mental health issues as well keep me ready for events once the new normal started. Not to mention the great lengths they went through to stay open as long as possible with the worlds restrictions making things difficult. It showed me how much they cared for their members as well as the community of lifters who all train there.
The ONLY reason I am unable to still train here regularly is because I have moved out of New England. However, each time I return for a visit, you better believe I'm getting a lift in at TPS MALDEN! If you are in the Boston area, I cannot recommend them enough. Even if you're an hour drive away like I was, STILL worth every...
Read moreAll the reviews below (that are 5 star) are all the same as i would have written, but i'd like to add a little bit extra. The gym is definitely a zero frills gym. 100% zero. A lot of the people that go there are extremely serious as their physique show. They play hard rock a lot making it seem quite macho.
DON'T LET THIS SCARE YOU AWAY!!! I'm new to working out and i've loved every visit.
Everyone in this gym has been extremely helpful. The staff is VERY helpful. They are patient and professional. I'm not sure how this gym manages to select such great staff, but keep it up!
In terms of the environment, which may scare some people away, don't let it! The guys are all very helpful. If someone isn't training hard and i ask questions they are very open to helping out. The nice thing about the people that go there is that people don't stare at all. I'm pretty small and i've notice zero staring. everyone respects where everyone starts, which is really critical to new people like me. The music can be a bit intimidating at first, but honestly i've gotten used to it and even like it now! It helps to get my energy up. Also, a lot of people in the gym seem to know each other which really adds to the community feel. Some of the staff seem to know the names of some people and not just the guys who are bodybuilding/Olympic weight lifting, but people who are new to the life like me. It really gives a lot of comfort. To give an example when i signed up for the gym the front desk manager offered up personal training (in a VERY non-pushy way... just letting me know it was available) i signed up. Well the next time i came in a few days later she asked if I've been called yet and i wasn't. turns out i was emailed promptly not called, but it was really great of her to remember and just adds to the community feel.
Honestly this gym is hands down the best gym i've ever been to. Can't say enough...
Read moreI literally just left TPS but had to get on here to leave this review. Absolutely TERRIBLE TERRIBLE customer service. I have been working with customers for 18 years and I would never even dream of treating ANYONE the way i was treated in there. I came in with my fiancé who use to box in this gym back when it was in its first location in Everett. He wanted to get information and ask about his old boxing coaches and look into what the gym has to offer now (5 years later). From the get go, Shar(whatever her name is) at the front desk was EXTREMELY rude full of attitude. She wouldn't even let my fiancé explain why he was there; she kept interrupting saying "okay well what's your question?" I was ready to walk out right after this but I stayed for the tour because I knew how strongly my fiancé felt about this gym. She rushed us barely explaining the gym rooms and their functions, bossing us around by telling us where to stand and get out of people's way. Like seriously lady? You have two potential customers who I can promise will be the largest reason you GET paid and you push us out the door like that. She then pointed to the "personal training room" and simply said that's off limits and didn't even show us the room. I SPECIFIED THAT I WAS LOOKING INTO PERSONAL TRAINING! Absolutely bizarre. And to top it off she didn't even conclude the tour. She simply walks off and starts talking to someone who she obviously takes more serious simply because they may have been a customer and we weren't yet ....I am aware that Murphy is the owner, so Murphy ...please set your gym straight and take everyone seriously because it's terrible to make someone feel the way your receptionist made us feel. Losing valuable customers is never a good thing. I truly wish my experience was not...
