Wow, what an incredible adventure my friend and I had at Presque Isle State Park in Marquette! I can't wait to share the magic we discovered in this hidden gem on the shores of Lake Superior.
Picture this: You drive through a lush forest, and suddenly, you're greeted by the sound of waves and the sight of the vast, sparkling expanse of Lake Superior. It's like stepping into another world. My friend and I couldn't contain our excitement as we parked the car and made our way to this natural wonder.
The first thing that struck us was the rugged beauty of the shoreline. Massive sandstone cliffs rise dramatically from the lake, and the waves crashing against them create a mesmerizing symphony of nature's power. We spent hours exploring the rocky beaches, searching for unique stones and enjoying the sensation of the cool, clear water lapping at our feet.
But the real showstopper was Black Rocks. These ancient volcanic cliffs are an absolute must-see. My friend and I summoned our courage (and a bit of adrenaline) to take the plunge into the chilly waters of Lake Superior from these iconic cliffs. It was an exhilarating experience that left us laughing and feeling like kids again.
Presque Isle is also home to some incredible hiking trails. We tackled the Harlow Lake Loop Trail, which took us through dense forests, and to jaw-dropping viewpoints of the lake. The trails are well-marked and offer a range of difficulty levels, making them accessible to hikers of all abilities.
Speaking of accessibility, we were impressed by how well-maintained the park is. The facilities, including restrooms and picnic areas, were clean and conveniently located. It's clear that the park staff takes great pride in preserving this natural paradise.
Now, let's talk about the sunsets. My friend and I made sure to catch at least one during our visit, and it was nothing short of breathtaking. We sat on the rocky shore, wrapped in blankets, as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of orange, pink, and purple. It was a moment of pure serenity and connection to nature that we'll never forget.
Presque Isle State Park isn't just a destination; it's an experience. It's a place where you can reconnect with the beauty of the natural world and create memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you're an adventure seeker, a nature lover, or simply looking for a tranquil escape, this park has something for everyone.
So, if you're ever in Marquette, make sure to visit Presque Isle State Park. It's a slice of heaven on Earth, and I guarantee you'll leave with a heart full of gratitude for the wonders...
Read moreComing from Florida, I was amazed, this is a FREE park and it is so much better than many other parks that charge an entrance fee.
I couldn’t believe the flora and fauna, I was lucky to see a Doe and a fawn on my first of many visits during my 12 day stay in Marquette.
I walked out scary far on the break wall, I had more than one peek at the Lake Superior shoreline that took my breath away. I saw people doing some serious rappelling, they must have descended over 300 feet!
The entire park is accessible via a looped road that basically just mirrors the shoreline as you traverse the peninsula that is the park. There are many places to pull-out and park but, be cautioned, there are only a few parking places at each location. During busy times it can be difficult to find a parking place; people typically park and the hike around the area and shoreline.
If you do park and get out for a hike, BE CAREFUL!, there are many places where you could fall, a long way and get seriously hurt or die.
No joke, this place is gorgeous but, also dangerous... If you are not being careful or you decide to do something stupid and do risky stuff, you could easily die.
So many people don’t understand why dogs are not allowed (outside vehicles) at Presque Isle Park... Just imagine how many dogs would die falling off the cliffs and how many people would get hurt or die themselves trying to save their dog out on a ledge or edge of a cliff overhanging Lake Superior.
I love Presque Isle Park, the locals are so lucky to have such an incredible park in their hometown. If you are ever in Marquette and you don’t stop to take in the beauty and invigorating fresh air at Presque Isle Park, you need to be ashamed.
Presque Isle Park is a “must do”, I am sure you will not regret your visit!

Read moreLove that this park does not have an entry fee and also free parking. There are a few donation boxes but we unfortunately didn't have any cash on us. Be sure to bring a fiver so you can support this beautiful public space!
We went for the cliff jumping, but parked at the park's entry and then hiked there (I'd say it was about a 15 minute walk and not challenging). There's a great loop trail that follows the coastline all the way around the park. I would say the black rocks are actually about a halfway marker so it was the perfect pit stop. Jumping in was scary at first, but absolutely our favorite experience while in Marquette. You'll regret it if you don't! We went on a day that is was about 87 degrees around 2pm and the water was definitely cold but not frigid. It actually felt GREAT after a sweaty hike.
There is a parking lot AT the black rocks but it was PACKED. If you enjoy walking, I'd recommend parking at the front of the park. It's a loop, anyway, so it'll take you back to your car on...
