I had no idea this memorial wall even existed until recently. My wife’s family planned a camping trip at Illini State Park, and while researching things to do in the area, I came across this memorial in a Google search. I visited the website, used the name search, and was stunned to find the names of some of my old buddies listed. I knew then I had to visit.

I'm a retired Air Force veteran who served in both OIF and OEF, and seeing their names on that wall hit me hard. My wife and I visited on the 4th of July. Just like the website said, their names were exactly where they were supposed to be. It was an incredibly emotional moment for me. I’ve never been able to visit their gravesites, and I haven’t seen their names printed anywhere since I last saw them on their vests.

We used the paper and grease pencil provided to trace their names. We took our time walking up and down the wall, reading each name, and saying a prayer for all who served. The beauty of the location is breathtaking, and the upkeep of the memorial is truly impressive.

To all those who founded, maintain, and support this monument—thank you. I genuinely feel like my buddies are in good hands here. I recommend this memorial to anyone, whether you’ve served or not. My wife, who is a civilian, was also deeply moved by...

The wall is very touching and a beautiful tribute to the men and woman who gave their lives for our country. With that said the mayor and everyone on the board of Marseilles,IL. Should be proud of themselves for turning the freedom run, the main event to raise money to maintain the walls and museum and to show the gold star families that their loved ones and their ultimate sacrifice has not been forgotten or taken lightly by the people who attend. They have not been allowed to hold an auction to raise money during the freedom run and they have made it very difficult for the people who work very hard to make sure our lost soldiers are honored as they should be. You have hurt your town as most of your businesses have gone out of business and you have hurt every person who has served...

It is in very hard words to explain about this place so I will try my best. The place is always immaculate. It definitely honors our fallen soldiers. It is truly humbling to see and the first time I visit the place I was overwhelmed with emotion on a sacrifice that the soldiers and their families I've given to this great country. It is truly a reminder of what we give for are freedom. So if you don't have a family member on the wall you should still go and visit it at least once in your lifetime to pay respect and to learn what people have given to this...

Went on a motorcycle ride with some buddies from work, in reflection of Memorial Day approaching, we took this opportunity to visit some names of a few Soldiers my friends knew, and to reflect on the sacrifice of so many brave men and women. Next to the Illinois river, and near some nice parks, this location has the potential for a whole day trip. The museum was somber as well, allowing some insight on memorabilia and keepsakes that family and friends provided in remembrance of their loved ones. Gone, but never forgotten.

At points along any route, we all gotta stop (gas, potty, sight-see). I-80 exit 97 takes you into Marseilles, IL. Nice little town on the Illinois river. It is also the home of the Middle East Conflicts Wall Memorial; a museum and free standing wall commemorating the men and women who gave all in "the sandbox", mountains, and other regional environs in support of our country. It was sobering.
