Wheaton Regional Park — Attraction in Glenmont

Wheaton Regional Park is a true gem in the heart of Montgomery County, Maryland. I recently had the pleasure of visiting, and I must say it exceeded my expectations in every way.

The park offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and recreational activities. The lush greenery, serene walking trails, and well-maintained gardens make it a paradise for nature enthusiasts. Whether you're looking for a peaceful escape or a place for a leisurely stroll, Wheaton Park's natural beauty won't disappoint.

For families, this park is a dream come true. The playgrounds are top-notch, and there's even a beautiful carousel that kids of all ages can enjoy. The miniature train ride is another highlight, offering a fun and scenic tour of the park.

I love going to the Wheaton Regional Park with my 6 year old grandson & 3 year old granddaughter. A good time is guaranteed. There's everything you need but a splash pad. It has a large and very popular sandpit. There's an adjacent swing set & a jungle jim for the smaller kids. For sitting on there are big stone animals and some that rock back and forth. This area is tree covered to enjoy on those hot sunny days! A short walk in the sun across the grassy field and there is a large workout area. It has 8 fun and easy to use exercise stations & a few park benches. This is in full sun! A wooden walking ramp begins by the parking lot next to the drinking fountain and the restrooms & curves around through the trees toward a larger play area with 3 large tube slides, a large swing set, several tall metal, cable and plastic climbing structures and a concrete covered hill to climb up and slide down. This area is also in full sun. There's a nice grassy area adjacent to the parking lot with a picnic shelter. I've seen a lot of kid's birthday parties going on here. We bring an insulated bag full by of snacks and some water & the kids never want to leave! I recently moved closer to Wheaton Regional Park. I can now walk there with my grandchildren via Brookside Gardens enjoying the peacefulness and beauty along the way. Wheaton Regional Park or Brookside Gardens has several choices for us: the Nature Center, the greenhouse, butterfly house and the gardens.

I always like going to the Nature Center as it has a variety of things to see such as bees in a clear box working away, stuffed animals, turtles and snakes in their cages and a place to relax and sit to view birds and squirrels coming to the feeders.

We went in the afternoon and spent a lot of time in the Nature Center. So it was too late to see the greenhouse or the butterfly house. But we looked in see some of the things that are being displayed. The displays change frequently to show flowering plants, ferns, cactus, bird of paradise, and a banana tree. Sometimes there are a bunch of bananas.

Volunteers manage the property. I'd like that the gardens had roses in bloom. There are many beautiful flowers to see too.

The Butterfly House is a wonderful experience. The colorful butterflies will land on you such as your head, shoulder and hand. The butterflies like mature bananas, watermelon, and papayas to name a few fruit they enjoy. There is a fee to experience the Butterfly House.

And there walking trails too.
