I had a very disappointing experience there tonight. Initially I had connected about a private event for my daughter’s birthday. The party area wasn’t available on dates that worked, so I let my daughter choose a painting to do with her friends from dates we had available. My daughter and 7 friends came to class tonight. We checked in at the front desk. We all took our seats. Right as class was about to start, Heather told me I was unable to sit and watch I had to pay for a seat or leave. I figured since I had children with me, paying for a seat was the best option, so I did. No big deal on my end, I apologized I didn’t read and follow that rule. We’re all sitting at one table together. The girls that came for the class were 10-14 years old. On the website it said “please check each class for recommendation”. The class recommendation was 13. I figured we fit that age band fine, the girls are all well behaved and very much enjoy painting. We were well into the class it was about 7:30 (class started at 6). I was walking to use the restroom and Heather caught me in the hallway. She asked one of the girls in our party how old they were (which feels super inappropriate to me, she told the child, “i like your pants, how old are you”) she should have came to me immediately upon checking in if she had questions or concerns. Anyways, she caught me in the hallway and said it’s been brought to my attention that the girls in your party are only 10. That’s not acceptable and should not be happening. I apologized and asked what the age policy was, she said 13 and up. I offered to leave if she wanted to refund me. She said there was no way she could do that, but then continued to tell me why it was awful we were there. People in the class are drinking, she could get in trouble, she has to enforce the rules, and then she said many people come here to get away from their children. I couldn’t believe she said that. Then she said “this never should have happened in the first place” while she was saying this, my daughter came by to use the restroom. My daughter overheard. She’s a VERY sweet girl. She then cried in the bathroom bc she felt we had upset Heather and that Heather didn’t want us there. It really ruined her birthday and overall experience. I have two more classes already booked - after that we will not be returning, and we’ve been long time customers. I was very disappointed with how the evening was handled by Heather. I understand and respect rules, had she questioned me when we checked in, I would have been apologetic and not have participated. I am unsure why this didn’t happen if she had concerns. She later told me she was just worried the girls would get upset and cry because the tree was hard to paint and she was having to make “all kinds of accommodations” for them - and the whole class was struggling, and she was struggling, because I had a couple of children under 13 (which again I was under the impression - see attached, was a recommendation). The girls that I brought did a wonderful job, no one cried except my daughter - because Heather made her feel unwelcome, not because painting a tree was hard. The class assistant however was so wonderful and kind, I very much appreciated her throughout the entire class from start to finish. It would be helpful to change “recommended” off your site - and to have staff verify age of those prior to class staring if it’s a requirement to make for a...
Read moreWe had a much different experience than we typically have at PWT. I signed my son up for the "camp" where they were supposed to paint a picture and make slime. When I came to pick him up, he was very upset and in tears. All the kids were having a blast with slime, but he never got any. He wanted to just leave. I called to inquire what happened, and apparently, I was supposed to pay more if I wanted him to make slime. This was never explained to me. I was told, they were supposed to tell me when I checked in. But they failed and did not tell me. What is unimaginable to me is how the leaders of this camp let this young child sit there in tears and not at least let him play with some slime or offer him another activity. Or at least call me and ask if I want to purchase the slime or pick him up early. This was very poorly managed. We paint here several times per year, and I am not sure if I can go back.
Edited: 8/12/24 - It was acknowledged that this situation was handled incorrectly after bringing it to their attention. A gift card was issued to rectify the situation. We appreciate the acknowledgement and truly believe situations like this would be handled differently in the future. Thank you for your...
Read moreWe had planned my sister's Bachelorette Party to start at this location; she is very artistic, so we figured it would be a great surprise. Unfortunately, she got caught up in stopped traffic and couldn't make it.
The owner and employees graciously offered to send home TEN take-home kits, which included legitimately everything (paintbrushes, paint, outlined canvases, aprons, even a pink tiara and wine glass for the bride). They even typed up step-by-step instructions so that we could still experience the painting together at another time.
This process took 30-45 minutes for them to complete, and we are super appreciative that they took the time to do all of that. I'd highly recommend this place for any event. They are professional, personable, and definitely seem to care about their guests.
Here's a photo of the paintings my sister (the bride) ended up doing with...
