Easy to locate with maps, search for Makena State Park. The beach is large after going through a passage way guided by the echo of the large waves crashing on the beach. Lifeguards meet you at the entrance to beach to give you weekly stats and warning to be careful since it's the most dangerous beach due to shore breaks causing spinal and neck injuries. We enjoyed the view but toes only for our family. We enjoyed the water on the other side of the island for play, but wanted to see the "white" sand. It wasn't as white as they claimed to be honest but the waves were definitely the largest we'd experienced so far...

I had the mobile app, but the app doesn't calculate the price correct, tried using the pay station but everyone on the island has the same c&b story about the wifi not working or no cell signal (my phone had 5 bars, 5G). There's an attendant, it's just easier to toss her a twenty and get on with your day. Much quicker than fighting with the automated technology that was supposed to make the attendant redundant. Ah, brave new world! At least with a person there the parking is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm giving it 4 stars for one simple reason. No showers. The beach is beautiful and the surf was lots of fun when we visited. The bonus was the multitude of trees that lined the shore providing plenty of shade for those of us with the fairer skin. My biggest and only complaint was the lack of showers. Covered in sand doesn't make for a comfy drive home, and if you have the ability to install parking kiosks, them showers shouldn't be to much to ask for.. other than that, definitely...
