We stopped here to rinse off from a long hike in la perouse bay. I had read that the beach is great for snorkeling and new swimmers and wanted to check it out anyways. It was a pretty beach and we got in the water and had fun in the good sized waves for a few minutes... then the big waves came... I thought I may not make it out... they were breaking at a point that you couldn’t make it to them before they break and you could run from them either.. they were at least 8 foot waves and once they start, you can’t get out till the 3-5 big waves are done... the last one was the worst and I had never been so terrified in my life by a wave. It was huge, too far to swim into it before the break and we were at a normal height where the water was to my chin, but by the time the wave was breaking, it was to my thighs... so you couldn’t run or swim away in that current either. We just plugged our noses and hoped we would come back up and not break our necks. My husband got summersalted all the way to the shore, I dug my free hand in the sand to not flip and tumble as much. We did survive, but I was done after that. I think this was a fluke, but beware!! Watch the waves for a few minutes before entering to make sure they stay at a height...

Great snorkeling with nice reef at both ends, great boogie boarding when the waves are up, north end is usually a bit more sheltered from the breeze, options for some shade closer to the trees (watch for thorns , they're Nasty).
