Our private tour of the Road to HÄna was more than just a scenic driveâit was a soulful, personal journey that we will never forget, all thanks to our incredible guide, Cheyenne.
From the moment we began, Cheyenne treated the land with such reverence. She taught us about the flora, fauna, and history of Mauiânot just casually, but with genuine care and deep respect for the âÄina (land), the kanaka (people), and the ikehu (energy) that flows through it all. On both sides of the vehicle, she pointed out waterfalls, fruit trees, endangered birds, culturally significant sitesâand never missed a beat. Her voice carried knowledge, respect, and aloha in every direction.
This was a birthday trip for me, and right at the start, Cheyenne presented me with a lei. That gesture alone touched me deeply, but it was only the beginning. Every part of the tour felt personalized and intentional. We hiked into an immense bamboo forest, where Cheyenne paused to thank the earth and the tall bambooâsomething so moving and grounding that it brought quiet tears to my eyes.
We found ourselves swimming in a small, hidden lagoon, basking in the sun while Cheyenne took photos of us with care so we could stay present in the moment. Later, we touched the sand of stunning, iconic beaches. We stopped at a local coffee farm where I enjoyed an unreal macadamia-roasted iced coffee with macadamia milk (perfection), picked up snacks and a beautiful seed bracelet made by the shop ownerâs mother (a gift for my own mom), and devoured the BEST banana bread Iâve ever tasted.
And lunchâwow. We stopped at Hana Farms Roadside Stand Pizza Oven and Bakery, and had some of the most incredible, truly farm-to-table pizza Iâve ever had. Every bite was fresh and bursting with local flavor. I still think about that pizza and would go back just for the meal alone.
Cheyenne knew the local vendors, the shopkeepers, the roadside stands. She brought us into the rhythm of real island lifeânot just the tourist stops. She asked us thoughtful questions, getting to know us both, and shaped the excursion around our energy and interests. It was so humble, so human, so full of love.
When my partnerâs sandals broke during our muddy hike, we happened to run into Cheyenneâs partner, who was guiding another tour. Without hesitation, he offered his own sandals. That act of aloha made us feel genuinely cared forâas people.
One of our final stops was at Coconut Glenâs Ice Cream, a colorful roadside stand with a rainbow sign and the most delicious, creamy coconut ice cream Iâve ever tasted. As we sat in the shade enjoying our scoops and the soft breeze, Cheyenne surprised me once moreâshe pulled out a chocolate fudge brownie, complete with a candle, and sang happy birthday. I could have cried. I probably did. In that moment, surrounded by sweetness, sunlight, and aloha, I felt something deeperâwe hadnât just visited Maui. We had been in it. We had learned, honored, laughed, listened, and truly connected.
I canât recommend this tour or Cheyenne highly enough. She embodies aloha, respect, warmth, and knowledge. If you are looking for more than just a tourâif you want to be transformed by your time on this islandâbook this experience. We carry this day in our hearts forever.
Mahalo Cheyenne. Mahalo Dana....
Read moreHaving done driven the âRoad to Hanaâ in the past, my wife and I were looking for a company that could not only do the driving for us but to show us things that only locals might be aware of. BOY, DID THAT PAYOFF!!
After doing tons of research looking for the ârightâ company, I came across The Magic of Maui Experience and Dana, the owner. I simply reached out to her to explain what we were looking for and within no time, it felt as if I knew her for years. Her life and energy was vivacious and her care and concern to make this a âspecial eventâ was overwhelming! She took the time to get to know âour storyâ and who we were so she could orchestrate the kind of tour that would fit us as a couple. She tailors each trip to her customers. (The way any Private Tour SHOULD be) It isnât about her, but it is about those seeking the help of a local to show them the time of their life!!
She arrives so prepared, you would think she is Mary Poppins! Constantly, she is reaching into her âbagâ and pulling out snacks, clothing, water flasks, sunscreen (safe for the coral), bug spray, towels, and even inflatable tubesâŚyou name it, she carries it! Whatever it takes to have a grand trip, she was prepared!
As we started our journey, we traveled in an Audi with a panoramic roof. Glass all around us to not miss out on anything. Our first stop was to see the monstrous turtles as they come up on the beach. These beautiful creatures are magnificent and we were warned of the laws that protect them so we kept our distance but got some beautiful pictures. Dana takes tons of pictures so that is another thing you donât have to worry about. She documented our entire journey and then sent me the photos, free of charge (unlike some companies). Pictures are priceless and only add to the joy and remembrance of the day. Thank you Dana for allowing me to simply enjoy the time and not have to be looking and stopping to try and set up selfies. She was our own professional photographer as she knew where and what to set up the âperfect shotâ!
Like I said, Dana caters to what works for you. If you like jumping off waterfalls or simply like to put you feet in the ocean, she makes the âMagicâ happen. We walked through a Lava tube that was hidden beneath a banyan tree (and guess who had flashlights to guide us through!) We came out in a beautiful bamboo Forrest and found a hidden river and a huge swimming holeâŚwith no one else around.
We saw, and swam in a gorgeous red sand beach where the water looked like Greece. It was a majestic blue and churned through the rugged lava stone that rose like pillars up through the sea. Hidden waterfalls that were just beyond the things everyone else was at.
There was so much to see, I canât share it all, but definitely know thisâŚThe Magic of Maui Experience was all that the title says!! That happens because of the GUIDES and their dedication to MAKE that magic happen. This trip hit all the expectations and felt as it you were able to grab the ring on the carousel multiple times!! This trip to Hawaii, was for our 38th wedding anniversary. Dana helped us to CONTINUE that magic that we found 38 years ago in our last trip to the island. Thank you Dana for keeping the Magic alive!!! You are the best! After all, you are now...

We were so fortunate to find The Magic of Maui during our two days on the island. We strongly recommend Dana and her incredible team for anyone wanting to maximize their Maui experience.

All you need to do is book and show up; they handle the rest to ensure a fabulous, stress-free experience (the âMagic in Mauiâ, so to speak).
Day 1: The Road to Hana & Haleakala Sunset
Our first day was a full adventure â a customized Road to Hana tour with the spectacular backside of the island and ending at the Haleakala volcano for sunset. You wonât find this exact itinerary on their website, but thatâs the beauty of Magic of Maui â every experience can be completely tailored to you.
Caroline, our wonderful guide, offered several options for the day, as thereâs simply too much to see in one trip. We chose to view turtles on the beach, swim in waterfalls, hike through the bamboo forest, visit a local chocolate stop, admire the Pools of âOheâo (the Seven Sacred Pools), and finish with an unforgettable sunset above the clouds on Haleakala. Caroline was kind, knowledgeable, and attentive to our every need â she made the day truly special.
ď¸ Day 2: A Perfect Beach Day
Our second day was a half-day of relaxation at one of Mauiâs loveliest beaches. After being picked up by Carmen, we arrived to find a full beach setup waiting for us â chairs, umbrellas, towels, drinks, snacks, floats, boogie board, and snorkel gear â everything you could want for the perfect beach morning.
Dana greeted us with her signature warm smile and bubbly personality, making us feel instantly at home. Itâs the kind of thoughtful, top-tier service youâd expect only from the very best companies. (And a special mention to her adorable dog, Zoey, who added extra joy to the day!) And lets not forget, visiting a lava field to end the day.
A Truly World-Class Experience
My lovely wife and I have been blessed to travel the world, and without hesitation, we can say that the Magic of Maui team ranks among the best service organizations weâve ever experienced. From start to finish, their attention to detail, warmth, and genuine care turned our two days on Maui into unforgettable memories.
