A park on the National Register of Historic Places, I like the sculptures and the canons. I do not really think the park is worth a 5-star review but it does deserve a high rating if only because the city does try and for the most part they deliver a park they can be proud of, even if some of the local teenagers do not seem to respect it.
The state of Arkansas lists this park as comprising 10 acres, the state of Arkansas being one to promote tourism through the state might be exaggerating a little. I seem to recall reading that it is between 6 and 7.5 acres. Regardless, this does not detract from the park's charm. There is a spring that feeds a pond ( a cement pond) where all the ducks hang out. The ducks are little gangsters, sometimes they act like they own the park but they have their cute appeal. There are trees, I wish there were more. I have heard at one time there were a lot more trees here but tornadoes did what tornadoes do and took some of them out. This is another reason I give the town some credit and the park a high rating, weather is outside anyone's control. I have seen images of the park when there were more trees. Some of the locals have told me deer use to visit the park on a regular basis.
Events are held in this park on a regular basis, it is a central location and a pleasant setting for festivals and such. The houses lining the streets that surround the park are well-maintained for the most part, adding to the charm. The park has a gazebo, a couple of cabanas with benches and seating, and ambiance of slight hilly terrain with a cabin occupying the center of the park.
The ducks are well-fed, this is probably obvious to most visitors, so if you plan on feeding the ducks be aware they may not eat anything because they have already had...
Read moreAll around pretty park and I love the lil ponds there, this is where I take my grandkids. Love watching the Ducks with their little babies and all the Geese too. ♡♡♡♡ And the Goldfish in the water had trash in it that no city worker or individuals is cleaning up so they have better water quality, People so need to clean up their Trash and stop trashing the pond out. Also alot of ones Smoking in the playground area, even with all the signs up that says no smoking, so my lil Grandaughter wasn't able to stay and play, due to being so allergic, due to ones smoking and blowing it all over where she was swinging at & being so non caring ! Love the Lum & Abner Fest, with the Car Show & all the vendors that show up to the Fest's here. The Rod Run is always a plus in August with its...
Read moreThis is a beautiful park with an interesting historical background. I visited twice during my stay in Mena. On one visit I sat for over an hour at a table and read. The only Improvement I could see would be more individual bench seats for those who would like to sit and read. And benches placed under trees would also be nice on sunny days. I was able to find one picnic table and a shady spot under a tree. It is a nice place for a picnic and it is near the library so one could take a trip get a book and go enjoy a quiet hour in the park. I would suggest that someone clean out the lake. It is quite beautiful and the Ducks are a nice touch but there was a lot of debris in the water and it looks very dirty on...
