Skyline Cafe — Restaurant in Mena

I hesitate to write bad reviews about small, locally owned businesses but….this was a rough visit. This was the only restaurant around that was open on a Sunday morning so we expected to have to wait for a table as it was VERY busy. We got there just before 10am and were seated at 1030. No problem here. Our poor waitress, it was her very first day….seems like she had little to no training. She wasn’t even shadowing anyone. She took our drink order as soon as we were seated. Got drinks about 15 min later and we ordered. No one spoke to us again until our food came out…..at 1145! We waited over an hour for food. And then also finally got refills. It’s posted everywhere that it’s not “fast food” but I mean really…..over an hour for food to come out and only half of our table got food. The other half had to wait 15 more minutes. And their food wasn’t even all hot. Hamburger burning hot, fries cold like they had been put outside in the cold. It was the oddest eating experience I’ve ever had. One of our friends had hair in her food as well. None of the kitchen staff had on hair nets or hats or anything so this isn’t that surprising. If the atmosphere was at least something nice to look at, maybe the wait wouldn’t have been so miserable but it just looks like a cafeteria with mismatched tables. 10/10 do not recommend you go in here hungry. Have a snack first. Maybe you’ll be hungry again by the time you get...

Well now, what the heck! We came here on recommendations from friends after a 5 hour drive from Dallas. What happened next was not what I expected. The wife and I both ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger based on the reviews here. But geez…. First 3 people that came in after us got their food before we did. 45 min after ordering we finally get our burgers. They were super well done. Basically char-burned. Another two minutes and they would have been Kingsford Briquette’s! Not even exaggerating. What made it worse was the bottom bun was soggy! The wife’s fry’s were cold. The onion rings were the best thing. Not to mention they kept running out of unsweet tea. I am really confused because this doesn’t seem the norm for this place. But this is our experience and I don’t know if I can honestly come back to this place as bad as it was. Not to mention I m concerned with the cleanliness of it. The mini split ac units have a ton of buildup on them. With air blowing through. Pretty sure black mold is growing in it. Certainly something black in the back one and middle one. This place could really be amazing. They need to take the time to be cleaner and they need to QC their food.

There are tables where the air conditioning blows directly on you. It was freezing!! We finally broke down and asked to be moved after about 30 minutes. We kept waiting for our food to come out but 3 groups of customers who came in well after us received theirs before us. Our waitress that we started with was good. However the other wait staff, including the ones who took over when we moved, seemed to be lacking any motivation. After our food was brought to us, noone ever came back to check on the food or our drinks. The hubby and I both ordered omelets. My first couple of bites had an odd texture but I assumed it was the melted cheese. I finally opened it up to check it out and it was not done. The off texture was uncooked egg. The hubby said his didn't seem quite done either. He opened his and it was not cooked all of the way either. It took about 45 minutes for us to get our food and it wasn't even completely cooked. I can understand a waitress having an off day or the cook making a mistake but with the bad waitstaff, undercooked food, and the super long wait time, I will not...
