What a great slice of nature in a busy part of Mentor! This is a newer park that was just created a couple years ago, but it is definitely a great asset. The park has around a mile and a half of nice level paved walking trails that meander around a pond, reclaimed wetland area, and grassy mounded areas. Whether you want to do some walking, birding, or just relax and enjoy a little wildlife by the pond, this park is perfect for those activities. The park has plenty of parking, a few picnic tables, and portable restrooms. When I visited the park I saw around 30 mallard ducks, and it was relaxing to stroll along the paved boardwalk that goes across the pond and watch the ducks take off and land in the pond. I would also feel very safe visiting this park alone since it has houses along 2 sides of the park and trees only at the perimeter and generally has good sight lines which made it feel much safer than walking alone in a wooded area. Since the park only has large trees along the perimeter, be aware that in the summer you won't find any shade and will need sunblock. Hopefully some more benches will be added to the park in the future. Also, there was quite a bit of trash in the reclaimed wetland area, so I hope that gets cleaned up periodically as I imagine loose items would blow across the property and collect in the wetland area which is a...
Read moreA bunch trees killed in the park today & for no good reason. They keep mowing them down, claiming it is to make the flowers grow. The problem is that the park has been taken over by a invasive species known as Canadian goldenrod. Park MGT claims to have invasive weed control but they don't touch the goldenrod.
The geniuses mowed everything down, right after the goldenrod went to seed. They have spread the seeds around nicely, thus assuring the problem gets worse. Next year expect the goldenrod continue their dominance and strangle the life out of those flowers the Park Dept is trying to protect.
Total mismanagement, Fire them all.
They have also mowed down many older trees in what can only be described as a plant holocaust. I talked to the director and he is obvious a person of limited intelligence who lies and blames this mess on someone else. A total waste of time.
I walk the dogs in that park at least 5 times a week. Today I was very depressed by what I saw and sickened by the stupid non-answers received from the director of mentor parks and rec.
I have more pictures that I will post later. Google identified the image as a elm tree. Regardless, It was one of my favorites and you killed it today....
Read moreI admit I’ve avoided this park in the city because I had biased views…I was wrong. It’s a great park! All paved and accessible patches, including the fishing boardwalk. Multiple shelters, large playground, and gorgeous wildflowers everywhere. Very peaceful walking around there too. Nice bathrooms are attached to the biggest building around the back, and there are two portables in a parking area. Plenty of parking too, three different lots. Overall, I will definitely be using this as my...
