Sumoboy Sushi & Teriyaki House — Restaurant in Mentor

I very rarely write bad reviews. In fact this is only the 2nd bad restaurant review I have ever written. However, I feel compelled to write one after the service we had tonight. Apparently Monday is sushi Monday; which consists of about 6 rolls that are discounted (didn't matter to us because we were not ordering anything on that menu anyways). They were moderately busy and we got seated quickly and got our waters. When we said we were not quite ready to order the server got annoyed. Then she never even bothered to come back. 20+ minutes with a 4 year old watching the server take orders from other tables. When we got up to leave and I said something to her; she should have cared less. Argued that she didn't help other tables and told me that she got busy. (Busy being her talking with other people behind the counter while the other servers ran around and tried to serve people ) . Congratulations, now I have a hungry and crabby 4 year old who didn't get to eat her sushi she wanted. Needless to say, we continued out the door. The place was also pretty gross looking inside.... I should have read the other reviews about this place first online before...

Love this place so much! Sumo boy is hands down the best restaurant to get sushi anywhere around, they have a huge variety of rolls and the fish always tastes fresh. Some of my family doesn’t like raw fish, so we often get the cooked meals too, they have teriyaki, all kinds of soups and salads, noodle bowls, etc.. no shade to other places, but there’s something about the flavors and the quality here, and the prices are probably the most reasonable of anywhere I know in the Cleveland area. I saw some comments regarding bad service and I can honestly say I’ve gone here for years and every single server or member of the staff (there’s only been like 5 or 6 of them over the last 5 years) has been extremely polite and accommodating to me. I’ve seen them basically babysit tables with rowdy kids, take care of parties of 20, and go out of their way to help people with questions and dietary concerns, stuff like that, never had a negative experience nor have I seen anyone complain. To each their own I guess.

P.S. cleanest bathrooms I’ve ever seen and as the mom of a 6 month old, I was very appreciative of that, but would’ve been happier if there were a...

I've been eating here for roughly 10 years now, still some of the best sushi I've ever had in the entire region Being a sushi snob I also realize that they have the best rice consistency I've had in the greater northeast Ohio region. So many times in many other sushi places that are common to this area the rice is slightly hard and subpar but sumo boy has always had the best sushi rice I've ever had. Their lunch special is still the best bang for your buck for sushi in the entire area, especially considering the quality. The biggest thing to be aware of is that they are struggling to hire people to keep the small business going. I know I saw a couple reviews on them that talked about bad customer service.
