I have a very special relationship with Metropolis and this museum. I graduated from Metropolis Community High School in 1968 and have watched this small, friendly, quiet town embrace the Superman legend and all it stands for. The citizens of Metropolis are folks who believe in "truth, justice, and the American way!"
The Super Museum has some of the most unique and collectable Superman items from the very early days of television, when George Reeves was "The Man of Steel". To add to the collection, they have several items personally donated by Noel Neill, who played Lois Lane in the television series, "The Adventures of Superman". Walking through the museum is a walk through time ... both exploring the brand new medium of television, then on to movies and merchandising of the man who was "able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!"
While you're in Metropolis, make a point of getting your picture taken with the 30 foot tall Superman in front of City Hall, after you've visited the museum, which is just across the street. Then, make sure to visit Fort Massac State Park and grab a delicious, pulled pork lunch at Bill's Bar-B-Que. Your day will be full of history ... both real and imagined ... and you and your entire family will have a...
Read morePlace is alright, however I would suggest a daily special, like 15% off signs Monday's, 20% shirts Tues, etc. As well as every product coming down 25% in general. The business model of trying to make 5x or 10x on mark-up of products, as opposed to pricing lower, selling more, would help this place tremendously. $9 buttons? $29.99 Superman shirts? Without Metropolis on them? We can all buy $5-15 non metropolis branded Superman shirts at Walmart or the mall.
I genuinely would like to see this place selling more items, as opposed to be more for browsing and damaging products by touching them.
Last suggestion, do a wheel spin, maybe with $5 purchase, that could maybe be a free pencil, or Snow globe, or 20% off next purchase.
Something to drive an initial sale, with potential follow-up sale.
I bet 75% of all sales happen between May and August, and I would like to see sales and new products.
This is not an AI generated review. Just a overly opinionated person, who's probably wrong, but believes that yes, it is a specialty store, however I honestly believe that if items were all about 25% cheaper, that the number of sales would increase.
I don't believe for a second that $30 for a shirt is...
Read moreWhat an impressive collection. The man who collected all these items turned his collection into a museum. It actually started when he was a kid and he became fascinated with the Superman series and just kept collecting items ranging from lunch boxes to figurines to eventually actual movie props and wardrobes. At one point he had such a big collection when he was a kid, he turned his room into the Superman museum and all the kids from school would come over to look at his collection because he lived next to his school and he would charge a nickel to tour his room. When the the 80's and 90's came around his items were very valuable and the people at DC Comics took notice and helped him create a museum and get his collection out there to the world by introducing him to an organization that got the wheels turning on this museum collection. Everything here is the real deal. Very impressive collection and well worth 1 hour of your time. The tour does cost more than a nickel, is more like 8 bucks. Inflation go...
