I rate hotels and motels based on value for price paid. It's silly to expect a $50 motel to be the same as a $200 hotel, so I don't. That said, The Baymont in Metropolis is better than I expected for the price. Yes, it's an older property and is dated, but it's one of the cleanest places that I've stayed in for a while. Carpets are in great shape and seem to be cleaned often. I'm a Wyndham Diamond Rewards member, so I travel a lot and have stayed in at least 10 different properties this year so far. There are nicer hotels in Metroplis, but they are almost twice the price, and I seriously doubt that they are cleaner. As I said, housekeeping and maintenance do a great job with what they have to work with. 2 story hotel (not motel). No elevator, so keep that in mind when you book if that's a concern. I prefer the second floor, and when I asked to be moved from the first floor after some inconsiderate guest microwaved fish and made the entire hallway smell like a port a John, they obliged with no hassle. Rooms are large. Mine had a King bed, and was plenty spacious. The typical dresser, microwave and mini fridge, The TVs are LG and are good sized. (50" maybe?) certainly not the tiny ones some places still have. WiFi is good. Water pressure is also good, and the towels and sheets are soft. Four pillows on the bed, of varying firmness, so you should be able to find one that you like. Harrah's is a few yards away; easy walk for almost anyone. The electrical outlets are occupied by the lamps, TV, microwave, fridge, etc, so if you need power for laptops and streaming equipment, bring a multi-plug adapter or an extension cord with multiple outlets. No USB ports in the lamps, so bring your entire charger. The pool area and exercise rooms are closed, far too long to be a quick renovation, so don't expect them to be open any time soon. There IS a light breakfast, with stuff like cereal, bagels, prepackaged sausage biscuits, etc. Not great, but I'm not spending $40 more for a hotel with powdered eggs, donuts, and biscuits and gravy. There are fast food places nearby for that. In summary, a nice clean place...
Read moreBooked this hotel because of its distance to Superman Celebrations. It is only a 7-10 mins walk. We arrived early and decided to let the receptionist know that we came early and requested then whenever a room is ready at 3pm, to give us a call so that we can check in. She wasn't very friendly but said she would. She never did. We came back around 3:10pm-3:15pm to see if our room was ready. There was no one at the front desk and we called twice before 2 guys came over to help. The 2 guys said that they are busy cleaning and aren't sure if a room is ready but will check. He did manage to find a room and briefly told us where it was. No other information such as where the ice is located etc was given. However, they were very nice and I appreciated it. The room itself seems to be clean. The TV was not working properly and need to be replaced. It was darkening and brightening itself and you could barely see anything on the screen from the bed. The ceiling had a large crack on the ceiling but from what I understand, there are some renovations that will be going on? So I hope that gets fixed. The telephone looks like it was for decorations. If you dial the button for the front desk, it immediately gives you a busy tone. We ended up using our phones to call the front desk which someone did answer. Check out was supposed to be a breeze, but they set the cards to deactivate too early. Check out time is 11am, so I would expect the card to stop working at 11am. However, it was deactivated by 10:30am. We had to prop the door open to move our belongings from the 2nd floor to our car. At 10:47am, we saw 4 old ladies come back from their breakfast and they were all locked out. They had to ask the hotel staff for access. They had individual rooms so this was definitely not a glitch or just a one room problem. Overall, we would stay here again because of its location but I hope these problems are addressed and the pool will be reopened by then as it is currently under...
Read morePlace is a joke front desk Angela Doublin gave a key to a room to someone that wasn't on the reservation & they went into the room & the guest woke up to someone on him hitting him & etc. When the person went to front desk they were lied to & when asked to speak to the manager Alinson they were told he wasn't there and wouldn't be there until 5 mind you this was 10 am so the front desk was asked to call him & have him to call the guests cell phone so they could speak no phone call was ever received. The guest left & waited for the call which never came so the guest decided to go back to hotel & let the front desk know they knew the manager was there & asked the front desk why they gave someone not on the reservation a key to someone's rm. They were argumentative & walked away from front desk. A police officer arrivived & the front desk worker returned to desk area & the guest let the officer know what had happened & the front desk told the officer that the girl walked up said the guest name that was it and the worker made her a room key. Right after admitting to this the front desk worker says the manager wants the guest trespassed from the property. A few more words were exchanged and the guest left. Mind you the guest was charged 160 dollars for them to give a key to someone that wasn't staying in the room, to get barged in on yelled at, cussed, hit, & then be treated like they did something & trespassed. This could've been avoided had the front desk been properly trained & let know the dos and donts that's supposed to be followed working in hospitality. Not only that the manager should've had his lazy butt at the front desk dealing with the situation instead of doing what he does all the time & that's avoid doing his job and running a hotel correctly. This hotel should've been shut down a long time ago. The guest should definitely be...
