It's a Park. In Miami. In my book that's three stars right out of the gate. And it's a whole lot more than the little park that the connected elite community lobbied for because it prevents convicted sex offenders from living within a certain radius.
There is a dog park there as well which is a fantastic idea, however this being Miami that doesn't prevent dog owners from allowing their pets to take care of business outside on the main lawn, which is disappointing (otherwise it would make a great Ultimate Frisbee field). But that's not really the park's fault.
There's an exercise circuit which appears complete, and the paths through the park are layered with some kind of bouncy rubber-wood chip mixture, which is a pleasure to run on (can we put this stuff on all sidewalks in Miami please?).
Nice views of the bay as well.
Parking on the weekend is a nightmare, and of course there is a conveniently located city cop who sets up camp right outside the view of the park so that s/he can give you a ticket within 0.2 seconds of you leaving sight of your car (assuming your car is parked illegally, which it would have to be on the weekend unless you want to spend an hour waiting in the middle of the street for someone to leave). Looks like the city has built quite a little cottage industry there - gotta fill those coffers somehow, kinda hard to throw lavish parties at Liv for developers with no funds! (Or to continue to sink money into the corrupt MIA/836/826 construction nightmare/gravy train).
But I digress - in a city like Miami where parks are mostly an afterthought or the remnants of lands bequeathed by rich families of yore and not yet reached by builders - Kennedy park is a welcome if not...

Read moreThe setting is very beautiful facing Biscayne Bay. There is also kind of a dock that you can walk out on and sit and enjoy the view. It's a very large park with a softly paved running path around it. The path has a lot of give in it, so it's gentle on your knees. There is a variety of workout stations. Most notably two sets of dip bars one high and one lower. Also a variety of height of straight bars for many different exercises. There are also monkey bars. If you're into calisthenics, you will find this park a good choice. Also, throughout the park are picnic tables, benches, and trash cans. It is all very well maintained .There is ample parking with a few handicap spots. There was a food truck in the parking lot serving ice and ice cream type of food and drinks. There are also a few sand volleyball courts. The bathrooms are near these courts, but far away from the workout part of the park. They are in air conditioned trailers and very nice. Definitely a good park for a variety...
