Alert park ranger misapplication of the law. In Summary: Any ADA Approved person may use ANY motorized vehicle to access the park. There is no motorized bikes allowed in the park. However, that law does NOT apply to Handicapable persons. I had a long conversation with the Superintendent for Monmouth County Park System and he corrected the mistake the rangers made in applying the no motorized bike rule to my handicapable friend. Suffice it to say that my confidence in the Park system has been restored! Thank Goodness for common sense to prevail. The sun is shining today folks! The story: We were really disappointed with the park rangers the other day. I have a friend who required a motorized small bicycle to get to where we were staying for the day on a rainy Friday. No one was in the park but I was laying on a blanket in the grass and the ranger chose to (excessively) drive his car onto the field I was laying in barely 5 feet from to me and then forced my handycapable friend to leave the park with the motorbike he needed to get around on and he spent the next few hours in the parking lot, alone. He offered a one way ride but no solution on how to get him back. With no one else there it was mind boggling why they insisted on throwing my friend out. It seemed like a huge lack of common sense. Ruined our day. "Park rules" he said. So no one can use a motorized bike on the trails. OK I get that. But this? It was more of an attack than necessary. I followed up with Monmouth County Park system and the Superintendent is supposed to get back to me. Suffice it to say, we were pretty upset with the lack of compassion and judgement from Park rangers that are usually fantastic. We are big campers and hikers and I visit and support the US Park system every chance we get. Stay tuned... I am not the...
