Arrived today for the first time. Decided to drive from South Jersey to try it. Right on the water, awesome. Parking free, not a lot, but enough for today, although nights/weekends might be an issue? Went inside to hostess, a bit of confusion. There were 2 other parties waiting to be seated. The young hostess seemed frazzled. She finally got them seated, and attended to me, a single diner. Brought inside, seated at a nice 2 seater, middle aisle, view still seeing the water, lovely. Waitress arrived quicker, ordered beverages. Then (and this has never happened to me before) the hostess asked to move me, as she needed my table and the next door 4, for a party of 6. No BIG deal, but this has never occurred to me ever, anywhere I've been. Rather bizarre. The next table was one, still had the great view but then when my server returned with the beverages, it seemed to set a little confusion. But, to the meal. Started with the house specialty soup, Manhattan Clam Chowder, the larger size, they don't say bowl they say mug, whatever. Main was the stuffed shrimp, severed with whipped potatoes and veggies. Soup arrived, very hot, which is great, very beefy in taste, but not much like a Manhattan Chowder to me. Lots of broth, bits of clam, potatoes, etc. The clams however were brownish in color and has a weird rubber taste to me. Not like any other chowder I've had. It was more like a vegetable soup in a strong beef broth. Not bad, but at $13 for a mug, it should taste really like chowder. Bread was delivered, and it appeared nice. I did not try it, as I wasn't over hungry. Before soup finished, entree arrived. That's sad, I wish places would be more careful about this. I wanted to finish the soup, even the beverages, my view and relax before the main, but here "no", seemed very rushed. The stuffed shrimp was quite good, 5 decent sized shrimp, mp that tasted very good, and a crabmeat top, but it appeared to me having a lot of filling, and less crabmeat. Again brown (interior) topping, crab is white. I think a lot of filling. But I did enjoy it, beverages were refilled and when I finished I needed a box to take the leftovers. I just wasn't starving, LOL. All in all, a good meal. I would actually give 3/12 if it were permitted but I didn't feel right going to a 4 for the food, because of the soup disappointment. Veggie soup is not clam chowder. And reduce the speed up procedure. Waitress was terrific, no complaint on her, atmosphere, nice. Would I revisit, yes, I probably would. The menu is expansive and there were a ton of things I'd have liked to try. Diff app or soup next time for sure. Worth goin got, as a more tradition seafood place, with a great view and mainly relaxed atmosphere I'd recommend it. But I'd have to say I wasn't blown away and had almost expected to be so for me, a slight sadness. For $63 inclusive of tip with no alcoholic beverages, I would have thought I'd be amazed, Sadly not. It's always nice to try a new places. Maybe if I ever revisit, things...
Read moreThis place is crazy great! The entrance is like from a movie where a pirate or whaler would enter. I'm tall, 6'5, this place is old. Ceilings are about 6'6 high in some areas. You walk into a bar area. Keep walking towards the water and keep your eyes open, this place is wild. The host will seat you. We went for a Linner, almost dinner but maybe a late lunch. The place was getting ready for a Friday rush and wait staff was busy doing restaurant things. The menus, plural, were very professional and nice. The atmosphere can be pirate casual to tuxedo. You would be comfortable here wearing whatever you are comfortable in. The specials sounded great but we opted for the main menu. My wife got crab cakes. We have been married almost 20 years and I think she is still looking for THEE perfect crab cake. That day, in this place, she found it! I had basic fried oysters and french fries. This place cooks everything super hot and well. I like my fried food to have a snap and not have that weird almost crispness to it. This was perfect. Appetizers, we opted for the popcorn shrimp. I am going to give my first honest impression. The size seemed a bit small. That was my first impression. The taste and texture was amazing AND I was wrong about the portion size, it was perfect. Bathrooms. I broke from tradition and wasn't looking for them. They have them, I wasn't paying attention. Beverages. They are listed in the bar menu, so if you have kids, you may want to read it to them or your 10 year old is going to be asking what is a Moscow mule. I ordered a root beer, but it was from a bottle and I hate ice so I switched to a Pepsi. I think ice can make or break a drink. It's a mental thing I think. Go and enjoy the place. Two people, appetizers, and drinks came out to under 70$. Decent pricing, amazing atmosphere, great service and perfect location. I love this place. Also remember to tip. If you can't afford to tip, can you truly...
Read moreThis was our first time eating here. We came in around 2pm on Presidents Day (Monday, 2/20). We were seated right away with a spectacular view of the water. Our waitress came quickly and we explained we needed to order one of the meals to-go. My friend, was having a hard time, deciding between two dishes so she asked for the waitresses opinion. The waitress responded with no additional information than what was stated on the menu, and gave simply said she couldn’t give a recommendation, because everyone was different. This was unexpected and disappointing as we expected a waitress to be able to describe what was good about each dish and why she would recommend each one. This was one of two reasons I gave this restaurant 4 out of 5 instead of a 5 out of 5.
There were four of us total sitting at the table and then we placed a fifth order to go. My daughter ordered a chicken fingers and fries, we ordered to fish and chips and then to crabcakes with fries. One of those sets of fries was the sweet potato fries, which were a huge hit.
My order was the fish and chips and then I asked for a bun and mayonnaise on the side. My waitress accommodated my requests without complaint, or question, for which I was very grateful. It turned out to be one of the best fish sandwiches I’ve ever had or the best fish sandwich. I’ve had the second reason I would give the restaurant at four out of five is because in my last few bites of my fish sandwich we’re about five small fish bones, which cost me then to not finish the whole sandwich And the bones were very sharp and I was concerned. I had to end up, spitting out the bites with bone in them.
Overall, it was a great experience and we hope to go back next time we are in town. I will give them another chance in ordering their...
