WORST ACCOMMODATIONS EVER!!
Good luck with contacting the property manager if you have an issue.... Better luck if something needs to be addressed. No WiFi (Very poor reception in the apartment because of router location) even though we paid for the service via rent for the entire week. We actually had to ask a neighbor who was kind enough to share her WiFi password. Try to not feel embarrassed doing that. There was sand in my bed (and others), and a necklace laying on the sheet of the bed, under the blanket. Were the sheets even changed/cleaned as part of our purchased/rented linen package? We ended up visiting Walmart to buy our own sheets for the week just to be safe. Parking pricing is completely different than what’s listed in the binder in the house (pictures attached), and there was apparently no communication with security advising of our arrival. The bedroom ceiling fan was unusable as it seemed like it was minutes from shaking itself off the ceiling and decapitating someone. The bedroom window wasn’t lockable! There were no latches (they were removed) on the window which prevented us from keeping the apartment secure. A 3-4 inch stream of water ran from the window in the back right bedroom, across the floor, thru clothing I had lying there, and then down thru the wall. I don’t know where the water ended up, but there was a lot – and yes, the window was shut. Each time it rained, there was water. It rained a few days. The back bedroom smelled musty/mildewy the whole time – likely from all the water flow. You could literally hear EVERYTHING from the apartment below – which started on Thursday. EVERYTHING!!! We had to tell our kids that the water pipes were banging (no pun intented) inside the walls. Thankfully they only banged for a couple minutes. The door handles were close to falling off. A “damage insurance fee” was paid, but stuff was damaged and not repaired before our move in – which was a complete waste of our money. Light switches were missing knobs. The flooring in the entire place is on a slope. This made sleeping in the back room bed interesting, as it too was at an angle. The mattresses were some of the most uncomfortable mattresses we’ve ever laid on. We literally hated when it was time to go to bed because we knew how much our sleep would suck that night. The back left bedroom mattress was acceptable, as was claimed by my son. The furnace may have been the loudest furnace on Earth. The location of the air inlet, as well as the accordion style door in the bedroom meant you could hear it’s thunder all day, and all night. The TV was mounted in the far left corner, flat on the wall, as viewed from the couch – and canted at an angle. I’ve never seen this! It didn’t matter either way, as the furnace was so loud, and the TV service (box resetting constantly) was so intermittent, that it was nearly impossible to just sit and relax in the evening and watch a little TV before we dreaded heading to bed. There is a gas pipe sticking out of the floor. Watch your toes! The futon was old, and worn. It was NOT clean, and it was NOT comfortable to sit on. I suppose the lack of comfort on a futon is to be expected, however. The showers were moldy/not clean. The mat in the shower had sand under it – sand from prior tenants, I’m assuming. The listing stated there would be an air mattress, we saw no air mattress. The "private" beach was covered in sheared aluminum cans and lightly buried garbage - as well as a TON of logs. Neighbors referred to the property as a dump - they weren't far off. This made for alot of awkward moments when we saw each other.
In short, if you want to stay in the most miserable accommodation you can image, and pay top dollar - rent the South Shore Beach House. If you want something better, there was a trailer park up the road from the beach that had some...
Read moreI really wanted to give Kelso Beach Rental's the benefit of the doubt but left with a bad taste in my mouth. My family and another family of four rented the "Happy Landing #2" for 4 days mostly due to the proximity of this rental to Presque Isle and Waldameer World and having rented cottages before through Airbnb etc and read up the reviews thought we should give it a go. We followed the instructions to pull into the property as per the last email from the contact person "Molly" and we pulled into the "security" shack and promptly were told we had to pay $35 to park, this was in the description ( buried though ) but for some reason alot of the other rentals received free parking but our rental required payment !!! With that being said we pulled in and found our rental, to say it looked a little "Shanty" from the outside would be an understatement but we went inside and while it was a little better it still had an air of disrepair to it. After getting everyone inside and settled we noticed some issues. First the TV and Cable box never seemed to work and the remote didnt actually change channels, second our coffee maker was missing the "Carafe" which made it impossible to make coffee in the morning. Third ( and probably most inexcusable ) there was only one smoke detector in the property and it did not have a battery !!! This surely breaks some laws as well as being morally wrong. I called Molly and received a voicemail. I left a message with our issues and didn't hear anything back for the rest of the day. The next day we sent her a message through email as her voicemail was full and rather than get a call back we left for the day, returned and found waiting for us a boxed up coffee maker, a battery for the smoke detector and a note saying the cable had been programmed.....who leaves a battery for us to install and just leaves all the stuff just sitting there for the renters to take care of themselves. Totally unacceptable. Also not every room had A/C and one of the back bedrooms had no windows and no way to receive A/C , as such it was a hotbox that was very hard to sleep in, our Room had standing water in the window area and smelt of mould Overall very rundown and poor service and communication. The only reason i'm giving it two stars is it's awesome location and proximity to Presque Isle and Waldameer. Not...
Read moreThis place (Happy Landing 1 & 2) was nothing but a hassle for our family from day 1. When you go on vacation, you expect to arrive to your rental destination and walk in to a clean, fully functional property. When you go on vacation, the last thing you should have to do is go out and buy disinfectant, cleaning supplies, and brooms to clean the previous tenants mess and dirt. It was even admitted by the agency that the units were not cleaned prior to our arrival because “they didn’t have time.” You expect your property to have everything that you paid for; as advertised from the minute you walk into a room. Not 2 days (paid) or more later. You expect to trust that your children are safe sleeping in their rooms at night, as the house should be up to code. The fact that there were ZERO functioning smoke detectors in addition to an old, open light socket covered with duct tape, mold, and an overwhelming odor of cat urine is just unacceptable. There is a large drain that goes through one of the downstairs bedrooms right next to the bed. Every time someone upstairs flushed the toilet, we were woken up because pipe was so loud. The walk ways between the upstairs and downstairs unit were not cleared of weeds and debris so we had to tip toe around that mess. The upstairs unit was missing a tv and when a new one was finally brought to the unit, it was left to our family to set everything up. The downstairs unit was missing a microwave which was eventually delivered. The fact that the agency immediately withdrew this property from their listings after we left due to our findings is proof enough that this house was in extremely poor, un-rentable condition. Yet as stated previously by the agency, they only find “some” of our complaints to be valid to consider processing a refund. I can understand a few minor things here and there that require correspondence between tenant and agency. However our family spent entirely too much time, effort, and frustration on this rental property that should have been spent enjoying our days together on vacation. I feel terrible for our family members who were kind enough to coordinate this rental property for us, only to be lied to and endure the ongoing frustrations of dealing with...
