This review is only for one employee specifically, a female who answers the phone for the camping reservations.
She is absolutely horrible and should be fired because she apparently does not care about her job and is one of the rudest people I've had the unpleasant experience of dealing with.
Every time I've called and have been unlucky enough to get her there is an issue. It first starts with her extremely rude attitude. There is no need for her to sound so miserable, everything you say is responded back with a stupid sounding "ok," and she is just not a person I want to deal with. She is over-the-top rude. It sickens me. If you hate your job, then quit!
More importantly than her horrible attitude, is the fact SHE DOES NOT WANT TO HELP YOU!
This is my second year reserving for Baxter, and I'm still learning the ins-and-outs. Last year when I called trying to navigate the reservation process, I had to call several times to modify and properly piece together my itinerary simply because she didn't offer any knowledge to help me with the process. I unfortunately got her on the other end every. damn. time. Finally, I got a different employee, and he was SO helpful and really cleared up a lot I was confused about. Instead of her just being "ok, ok, ok." She makes you feel un-welcomed and like you're a bother for even calling.
Then just now, the reason I'm irritated enough to leave this review, is I had to call to "cancel" the first 3 days of my trip because my cat is being put to sleep. It's not within the 2 week window, so no refund she says. Never offers me the option to "transfer" my reservation and book some different days for later in the season when I can return to the park. I simply didn't know I could do this, but found out after I get off the phone and poke around the site for the cancellation policy. It's not my fault I didn't know this, it's HER JOB to be helpful! Let alone a decent human being.
Ugh just so disgusted that a park ranger like her is affiliated at all with the peace of nature. I will always try to get someone else to help me in the future other than her. Although, I've seen the few other negative reviews left here seem to be regarding a "rude female employee." Do better BSP. She...
Read moreRead moreThis is a gorgeous state park with so many trails, from level and easier terrain to very rough terrain. Chimney Pond - Cathedral - Knife's Edge - Helon Taylor was HARD and not for those folks that are scared of heights. I didn't think I was scared of heights until a few points along the Knife's Edge. I definitely recommend doing Cathedral up to the summit rather than down from the summit, because it was a lot of bouldering and especially tricky for my 5' 2" self. If you want to hike Katahdin and camp, make sure to make your reservations well in advance! We had to make our camping reservations four months ahead of time, and even then very few sites were still available for our dates. DO bring bug spray, sunscreen, and layers, as well as sturdy hiking shoes. Leave your firewood at home--they sell firewood for just $3 a bundle at...
Wow what a trip. It's about 50 miles of dirt road so don't take the Tesla, but any car with good tires and a full tank of gas should be able to make it just take your time and pull over for the super speed freaks trying to time trial the road. Pull off at all the little stops and you're rewarded with great views and trips to hidden falls. Take bug spray and stop in town to get gas and spray the car with bug spray to help cut down on the little blood suckers and tiny flying vampires and black flies that will want a free ride and meal. If the road is open then the bugs are also open...
