My daughter loved this park!!!!! She is sensory sensitive so the water/ spray feature freaked her out a little bit until she learned the rotation of them and was able to time them.
Children played a bit dangerously by adding water to the slides to make them a water slide. The problem with this is that is made it VERY slippery for little ones. My daughter insisted on going down the slide I didn't know it would make it slippery considering all the other children were much bigger so the speed didn't change. My 4 year old daughter on the other hand almost flew off the slide. Yeah, no more slide after that.
Parents are busy socializing and playing in sports themselves or on the phone. They didn't really get involved. I do like the parents were so comfortable with their child being there they didn't feel the need to actually watch them. On the other hand, it made it difficult to handle situations between children. I don't have any issue assisting children who need a little guidance so it wasn't a problem for me.
The park is beautiful, clean, lots of open space for field sports.
Only thing is none of the structural equipment is in the shade. It's boiling hot by the sun. You NEED the water feature at this park to pour water on the structure so your child can enjoy it.
I really enjoyed the fact all the seating is facing the play structures. It was easy to watch my child as she plays.
Overall I like that I felt safe, I felt my child was safe most of the time. Beautiful park. There's a seating area under a gazebo, perfect for party of like 20 people or so. You might be better off bringing additional seating for really large families. Doesn't seem necessary to reserve the area, just go early and set up.
Overall 5 out...
Read moreThe city has allowed this park to fall apart, or at least the playground equipment. The adult swings are completely gone, mainly because after school when the kids from the middle school get out waiting for their parents, the swings would deliberately get twisted or vandalized and the school does nothing to curb the kids from destroying them. It's still one of the safest parks in Modesto, so far. The water fountains are only on a few times during the Summers. Sadly, that has been reduced because of the water shortages and city controls, again taking away a characteristic of the park.
Update 6/2/22* The park has had better days. There is alot of trash near the playground and one of the slides has been removed from vandalism and time of use. The flags are hard to keep up I guess, they were tattered when we visited today. The swings are fine, the rubber play area is good. The water Fountains are working now that Summer is here. Lots of yellow...
Read moreFreedom Park is one of the cleanliest parks in Modesto, recently spruced up with new playground equipment and a renovated cushioned floor for kids to play on. The cushioning is great for falls from little ones. Has 2 playgrounds, one for little ones and one for bigger kids. Both playgrounds have swing sets, there is also a covered gazebo with lots of tables which is often power washed. The restrooms are cleanly enough and always seems to be stocked with toilet paper. There are various barbecue pits to cook on, in the summertime there is a water feature so children can keep cool. Water fountains, for the dog too, yes the dog! Lots of benches, full of shady trees, a nice path to walk around the park, 2 half court basketball areas and lots of green grass to do whatever you want, picnic, throw a party, play a game of football or soccer! Great kite flying area as well and in...
