Effigy Witch Shoppe — Attraction in Monroe

I've been coming to Effigy for many years, so I know this shop well. This is now, THE ONLY genuine Witchcraft shop in the tri-state area; all other metaphysical shops are just metaphysical shops with a lot of, Made in China, new agey shlock. Effigy has many hand crafted items and tools for practicing the Craft. Limited hours, so one should call before going, to make sure they are open. Generally they are open Wednesday through Sunday but call first. Note: this is NOT a New Age shop! While there are several excellent New Age stores in the area, Effigy is the only shop exclusively for Witchcraft and the Occult. Effigy supplies Witches, Pagans, Ceremonial Magicians and other Occult practitioners far and wide, with the necessary herbs, oils, potions, candles, hand picked stones and crystals and beautiful handcrafted tools by artisans who are actually in the Craft. This is not off the shelf, mass produced, cheaply made in some horrible sweat shop woo woo crapola. Also, there is an incredible selection of Tarot, Lenormand, Kipper and Oracle cards. If you are considering books but don't know what to read or where to start, or if you are new to Witchcraft and have the right motivation for entering into the occult sphere, Mark, Louise, Donna and Josh are all very knowledgeable and can help you choose the right book. There are hundreds of books on Witchcraft and the Occult so Effigy does not carry books at this time, as those can be easily purchased new or used and Mark prefers to provide the space for the mostly, one of a kind items. Whatever occult or Witchcraft ritual tool you are in search of, if Mark doesn't have it, he can find it and order it and will always get you the best. The Tarot readings by Donna are spot on and available by appointment. I've been to many Tarot readers and so far, Donna is the best I've encountered, plus she teaches a really clear and practical Tarot class at Effigy. Actually, throughout the year, there are classes ranging from Witchcraft 101 and 102, to Ghost Hunting, House Clearing, Psychic Protection, Tarot and Energy Cleansing. Look for lectures and book signings by famous Witchcraft authors too. Effigy is truly the one stop shop location for inspiration, support and everything you desire on your Witchcraft wish list. The store also has an Apothecary room full of herbs and resins useful to the craft, including hard to find herbs. The owner Mark and his employees have years of experience, are committed and caring towards anyone who visits Effigy. Exceptional staff; finest quality merchandise; classes and field trips are all informative and worth every penny; have met the loveliest people at the shop (nothing scary or dark). Mark is a very learned man and generous with his time and knowledge. The store has a very laid back atmosphere and there is no pressure to purchase. He cares deeply about his students and their well-being, and will go out of his way to help. His merchandise is competitively priced, and it is a privilege to have this shop as a local resource and to learn from the best. It is also nice to support a small store where your business is appreciated and customer service is paramount. Authenticity is hard to find today. When you need advice an online retailer cannot provide that. You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, nor someone’s aesthetic. Some people like bright happy things some people like dark mystical things. Whether that be in design, art, or collecting habits. When someone shares something meaningful to them or their life’s work with someone else it really is a gift and a labor of love. A Hidden Gem

Though I’d driven by this unassuming little shoppe thousands of times, I had never quite made it there for a visit until.. I finally did. Life always seemed to “get in the way”; I was too rushed, too reticent. Would I be pressured in to buying something I didn’t want? Would it be uncomfortable to come in as a stranger to such a small niche place?

When I finally “made the time” to stop in on one September afternoon of 2021, my doubts and trepidations instantly disappeared.

I found Mark, his staff, and each fellow customer that entered, to be incredibly welcoming, genuinely kind, and knowledgeable. Effigy was filled with beautiful gemstones of types I had never even seen before; trinkets, finely crafted jewelry, herbs, and more. Not an overwhelming volume of inventory, but a carefully and lovingly chosen one.

I wandered in on a whim - apprehensive, alone, and not really knowing what I was looking for (“window shopping”) as one does. I left with new connections and friendships, and a handful of beautiful (and fairly priced) gems, and a headful of fascinating new knowledge to go along with them.
