I visited their morning church service at 9:30 AM (with "old and new songs") and found it to be completely contemporary. It's not a blend of traditional and contemporary; even the "old" songs are sung in a contemporary way. The church choir appears in their individual Sunday dress (no robes) and there are projector screens with the words to the songs projected on them for everyone to follow along. The congregation seemed friendly, but no special attention was made to guests (like myself). The church service lasted well over an hour, although the exact time eludes my memory at this point, with no special events thrown into the mix that might have made it longer than normal.
The pastor is a dynamic speaker, but when referencing current events, he didn't get some facts straight (in particular, Muslim militants shooting Christians in a church in Iraq on 1 November 2010. The pastor said they did it because the Christians were so successful and the Muslims didn't like it. The actual reason given by the militants for the attack was because they believed some Christians were holding Muslim women hostage in Egypt. It had nothing to do with Christians being so successful as to make Muslims violently envious, but I guess that story is better for helping the congregation sympathize with the Christians and feel vindicated through martyrdom). At least in the sermon I listened to, the pastor made it a point to almost yell whenever he was making a point; as if yelling the point made it more substantial. It seems to be a fairly common method of preaching in bigger, conservative, contemporary churches.
Overall, it seems to be a large, conservative/fundamentalist, contemporary church. So if that's your thing, hey, you should fit right in. It just seemed really "showy" for me; more of a performance to be enjoyed by people than a worship service for the praise of God. Thus I choose to...
Read moreDisclaimer - I don't attend FBC Moore. However, I have used their gym a handful of times over the years, played volleyball, sent my child to VBS, attended BSF for two years, and participated in their homeschool gym program (good value for the cost). So, my rating is strictly based on the non-church member related opportunities. I know friends who highly recommend their childcare and preschool. The church itself is a deal-breaker for me, personally, since gender subordination is enforced (women aren't allowed to preach or lead, and are not valued as functional equals in marriage), but I really appreciate all they do as a community resource. If you are looking for a church of that type, you will find some good folks...
Read moreDecent place to work out. They now charge a $5.00 monthly fee which still isn't bad. However, this charge is for 13+ and with three children over that age, well you can do simple math. Might as well go to a paying gym. But, I guess it gives an incentive to go more often.
They have racket ball rooms and two basketball goals gyms. But they also have classes on Tues and Thurs so you can't play individual basketball. On the other days, they have leagues playing games with older guys so you can't play then either.
There are a few people that don't really work out but go to socialize so be prepared to deal with loud...
