The Shrimp and Petroleum Festival isn't just the oldest or most celebrated festival in Louisiana, it's the best festival in the state! What's at the heart of this appeal, what's its secret sauce? There is a regional hospitality exhibited in Morgan City that the locals exhibit and travelers absolutly love. Once exposed, visiters often become infatuated with the crazy town and people of Morgan City. It only 4 square miles, but it is so densely populated it still has a "big" town feel. For the adventurous traveller, festival goers, and locals, the City offers a small towns safety, with big city fun. You get to experience the best parts of a New Orleans style celebration, that silly over the top NOLA sense of crowd engagment with music , food faimly and friends; but you get to do it in a safe environment. So, if your looking to escape the mass marketed world for a truly unique experience, something really different the Shrimp and Petroleum Festival is where you want to be.

I mainly attend the festival for the delicious food choices,i ate fried alligator on the stick, fried shrimp and fish, and shrimp fried rice with calamari and a grilled shrimp kabob,i also bought some cheesecake from this local businesswoman named Alexandra of Simply Cheesecake and More(Red Velvet, Gentilly, Turtle and Pecan Praline)

This festival has gotten better year after year. As with all things, prices have gone up astronomically. But, that's just how it goes.

This used to be one of the best events of the year, the carnival has went down over the years. I grew up on a carnival and “we” used to play the Shrimp & Petroleum Festival, what we used to bring in there and the equipment that was there this year was a let down. Several pieces of equipment did not operate the way it was designed or was not running at all. I personally know the Mitchell’s, they are good people and have a quality show, I just don’t understand… I want to make sure everyone understands, I’m not rating the carnival only the whole festival atmosphere was just not what it used to be, I miss...
