A very pretty coastal inlet & marsh park with some nice boardwalks, nature views, views of fishing boats, dolphins in the estuary, crabs in the mud, and various seabirds for those Ornithology fans. While parking CAN be a bit of a hassle sometimes, it kind of depends on WHERE you park. The park technically extends over the estuary to the restaurants on the other side of the waterway by Shrimp Boat Lane. (You'll have to cross the Coleman Blvd. bridge to get there, where there's plenty of seafood joints to sit down & enjoy yourself at.) The park is FREE and most of the parking areas are FREE but do be aware that it varies depending on where you try and park. Pay attention to the signage in the parking areas. Some are "pay-for", others are free, and others belong to businesses which restrict their parking areas to customers only. Be prepared for a breeze (usually, especially in the mornings & nights) which can get right brisk during the cooler months. During the summer it can get get muggy-hot - REAL muggy and VERY hot so dress accordingly. It's a pretty park, well kept up, and the boardwalks are generally in good repair. It's a nice place to walk, especially after a meal at one of those restaurants I mentioned, plus there's the whole nature side of things which makes it very pretty sometimes, especially at sunset. Enjoy!
Note: The photos I've included are from "the other side" of the park where the restaurants are since most of the photos for these reviews are from the marsh & boardwalk side. I figured you might want a different view, and yes: we saw a pair of dolphins cruising the waterway. It was cool. :-D

Read moreI went to one of the restaurants that is right on the water and it was a very nice restaurant not cheap but nice unfortunately my food was a little bit spicy but the menu did say spicy. And I should have known better but it was very good people were good I forgot the name of the restaurant but anyway we were looking out into the water and you could see little boats coming in and out even little Tiki huts floating in the water it was really cool and then they have a long boardwalk that you can walk out into the marshes and into the water with a pier in the end and it was absolutely beautiful absolutely beautiful I really really love the islands like this one and also Isle of Palm and just a bunch of the Islands nearby it's great great spots I think to rent a Airbnb and just chill out and then if you want to go to Charleston it's only about 10 minutes away so it's like the perfect getaway. We went I think to Sullivan Beach I think it's what it's called after we ate and the sun was just going down and I took some really beautiful pictures of the sunset next to the ocean. It just a nice vacation I was really surprised I didn't expect. Charleston you can see it and one and a half days and then if you want to go to some of the plantations they're okay. But it is your tourist trap type thing but the houses and the buildings are extremely interesting so it makes for a really nice vacation here in Shem Creek Park was great and everything else. Not cheap...
Read moreOverall: A perfect park for an afternoon stroll or sunset.
The good: A series of boardwalks off of Shem Creek - We bring our family and friends here all the time since it's easy to get to and accessible for all ages. Walking along the cordgrass and water is such a relaxing vibe, and it's a great spot for sunsets. It's fun to see the different shrimp/fishing boats (not to mention the pelicans and smells that come with them). We'll often see dolphins here, which is always a nice plus. Plus, you're right by the waterside bars and restaurants.
The not-so-good: I wish there was more of it! Also, having more non-bar amenities would be nice, like little stands or shops on the "business" stretch of the boardwalk. But that'll never happen, given the amount of space...
