I came to eat here for the first time and was really looking forward to the experience. I ordered a dozen oysters on the half shell, the artichoke crab dip, and the Bolognese.
The oysters were very fresh and delicious, easily the highlight of the meal. The artichoke crab dip was also surprisingly good. I wasn’t sure how those flavors would mix together, but it ended up being really tasty and full of flavor.
Unfortunately, the Bolognese was where I was most let down. The sauce was very heavy and not what I expected. The pasta was also slightly undercooked, which made it less enjoyable overall. The person I was with and I split the entrée, and as shown in the photo, there is a clear before and after comparison showing how little we ate before deciding to stop because neither of us liked it.
The service was also disappointing. Our server greeted us, brought our drinks and food, and later brought the check, but there was no real engagement beyond that. He never came back to check if we liked our food, which would have been helpful with the Bolognese since we would have gladly tried something else had we been checked on. The plate sat in front of us for about 20 minutes untouched before the server returned to ask if we were finished. We let him know we didn’t like the dish, but instead of asking what was wrong, offering something different, or trying to make it right, he simply said “okay” and took the plate away.
When the check came, I was surprised to see that the Bolognese was still included on the bill, even though we had barely touched it and clearly expressed that we didn’t like it. As someone who also works as a server, I know how important it is to show care for the guest’s experience and at least attempt to make it right. It was disappointing to see that kind of service here.
Overall, I was pleased with the oysters, the dip, and the drinks, but the main course and service experience were not up to the standard I expected. I’m sharing this in a constructive way, not to be malicious, and have chosen not to include the server’s name out of respect. I hope this feedback helps the restaurant improve, because the food that was good was really good, and the place has potential to offer a great overall dining experience with a bit more attention to detail...

Walking in, the rustic charm hits you like a gentle breeze on the back nine. The place has a vibe that says, 'Relax, but keep your elbows off the table.' It's the kind of spot where you'd expect to see a dad wearing his 'Best Par None' cap, giving a thumbs-up to the server.
Speaking of servers, they're so friendly and attentive, you'd think they were competing for the 'Masters' of customer service. They know the menu like I know the back of my hand after a mosquito bite – intimately and with slight annoyance that I didn't notice sooner.
Now, let's talk about the menu – it's like a well-organized golf bag, everything in its place and full of surprises. The appetizers are the perfect 'fore'-play to the main course. I'd recommend the shrimp and grits – they're smoother than the green on the 18th hole.
For the main course, the steak is a must-try. It's cooked to perfection, like a drive straight down the fairway. And don't get me started on the sides – the mashed potatoes are fluffier than my golf pants after Thanksgiving dinner.
Desserts? Well, let's just say they're the 'sweet spot'. The chocolate lava cake flows like my tears after missing a putt for birdie. It's a hole-in-one for your taste buds.
The drink selection is as varied as a pro golfer's trophy room. Whether you're sipping on a craft beer or a cocktail, you'll feel like you've just won the club championship.
In conclusion, Tavern & Table is the '19th hole' of dining experiences. It's where you go to unwind after a long day on the links, tell a few dad jokes, and enjoy a meal that's above 'par'. So, grab your 'foodie' clubs and swing by – it's a...
Read moreI had the pleasure of showing hospitality to a visiting business guest from Mumbai, India who is a vegetarian. I did a quick search for veggie friendly restaurants in the Charleston area and an old favorite Tavern & Table made the top ten on the list I was reviewing. I hadn't dined at some of the other restaurants listed and decided that T&T was a very safe bet although I knew the menu is on the shorter side. Traffic on this Wednesday night was awful and I knew we were not going to make our 6:15 on time so I called ahead to let them know I would be a bit late. The hostess was very friendly and held our table for us. The restaurant can be very busy so reservations are always suggested. I didn't find a parking spot in the open free lot and was already running late so we parked in the garage for about $9 for our dinner stay. We started our dinner with a tasty T&T Old Fashioned and it was a slightly sweeter, floral and fruity twist on the classic recipe. Our Bulgarian server Milar (spelling?) was super helpful and patient with us as we went over the menu looking for the best options for my vegetarian guest. He ended up ordering the mushroom flatbread and loved it. We split a wedge salad (bacon on the side for me) and I finally had the double double cheeseburger after ordering the steak frites on several other visits. The steak frites is amazing especially with the duck fat fries (you had me at duck fat!) but I wanted something different. The double double was great and large enough where I couldn't finish it. The sunset on Shem Creek this night was amazing compliments of hurricane Milton clouds that filled the sky. The photo's are from our outside table under the cover. It was a great dinner and my international guest was very happy with the food and great vibrant atmosphere of this...
