Having previously visited the USS Joseph P Kennedy DD 850 in Fall River, MA and being very disappointed my expectations for the Laffey were not high. Boy was i happily surprised! What really made our visit exceptional was our guide, Chief Bob. I could never ask for a better guide and I was on a destroyer myself in Vietnam. I loved the fact that so many areas like the bridge and inside of the gun mount and the CIC were open and even had awesome videos playing. Read moreThis is a wonderful piece of history. Just to be on board and knowing you are standing in the spot where those heroic men fought and many died was one of the most humbling things I've done. I I'm grateful for the opportunity to experience it with my daughter. We had the honor of meeting Luther Singleton on board. He served on 3 of the ships like the Laffey before retiring. He is a wealth of knowledge and one of the kindest gentlemen I've had the privilege of speaking with. If you visit the Laffey,be sure to ask if Chief Petty Officer Singleton is on board.
