This rating is a 2 star based in the cost vs service. For 2 nights my bill was $1500. This is an expensive resort. I’m good with spending the money if the resort holds up it’s end of the bargain. But unfortunately this resort failed time after time with cleanliness and service. If you are at all still worried about the pandemic, don’t go. Most of the patrons did not wear masks. The employees had them on but mostly to just cover up their chins and they would just pull them down to speak to you. They advertise that all measures are being taken to make sure all areas are sanitized this is not true. And was not our experience.
When we checked in and went to our room the floors were filthy I’m attaching pictures so you can see the areas where the previous guests left cereal on the floor it was sticky and truly gross. I called and asked them to please bring up a broom and dust pan or sweeper and when that didn’t work I had to go down to the desk and ask them personally to let me borrow a sweeper so that I could clean it up myself. They wouldn’t give me one and said they would send up housecleaning. House cleaning did show up about 40 minutes later. I was not offered a different room or any apology at all for the room condition. The common surfaces in the room were also messy and stained and I used my own sanitizing wipes to clean those.
The room layout was very nice it had a large bathroom and a pretend fireplace that did put out some heat and a nice balcony. The table and chairs on the balcony were also dirty. I did have to clean those down with my own sanitizing wipes as well.
They don’t provide coffee pots in the room and used the Covid pandemic as an excuse for that. In my own opinion and several opinions of the other patrons that I encountered the next morning as we all stood in line trying to get coffee from little canteens that they put out everyone else thought it would have been better to have it in the room then to stand in line with 16 other unmasked people while we waited to get coffee. I chose to wear a mask but there was truly no social distancing happening at this hotel. Once reaching the front of the line I noticed there wasn’t any decaf available. I was told there was no decaf. I am unable to drink caffeine so the 15 minutes that I stood in line with the crowd of other people was a waste of time and I was told that I would have to walk down to the hotel restaurant which is in another building in order to get coffee.
We chose to rent a cabana at the pool. Upon arriving at the cabana we were unable to find the cabana person to check in so we had to go inside at the spa area and check in. When we got to our cabana the table that was provided was covered with food stains and ants. We had to knock all of the ants off and try to get napkins to wipe that table down ourselves. The furniture that was provided in the cabana was also stained with food and was in disarray. We were super disappointed. Also no one services the cabanas so if you are looking to rent a cabana in order to have someone available to order food or drink from don’t rent these cabanas. That is not a service they provide.
We had the Buffet breakfast at the Fish House restaurant on site the first morning. They didn’t offer a lot of different items so if you were looking for a Buffet that offers any kind of choices you should go offsite to have breakfast. For two people the breakfast cost us $69.
That evening we also had reservations at the Fishhouse for their dinner. We arrived at our reservation time and they were turning people away so we were happy that we had made reservations. If you choose to stay at this hotel other than a few bars on site this is the only restaurant so make dinner reservations well in advance. We had the special that evening and it did not disappoint we were super happy with the dinner and the dessert.
We wouldn’t stay here again but we will be back to visit Charleston again. It was beautiful and there is so much to do. But save your money and find a better...
Read moreLet me first say some of these grievances we reached out about, and others we just kept to ourselves because we didn’t want our special occasion to be soured by non stop complaining, plus we had been inconvenienced enough for our brief two day stay. I know sometimes things happen, but this is a pretty long list of things that were ignored or overlooked at the price point we were charged. We could honestly say we’ve had better stays at inexpensive chain hotels. We booked a 2 day staycation to celebrate our anniversary. We booked a harbor view room with a balcony. We checked in and were given a first floor room with a patio and direct view of the pool-we could clearly see people in the pool and they could see us. The booking rate of this room is less expensive than what we booked. We were then moved to a 3rd floor room which better suited the description with a lovely view. I happened to read the packaging for the key card too late to find out we were supposed to have been given a token for a Marina Store beverage, candy, or a s’mores kit; we were never given such a token nor was it mentioned upon check in. The new room on the third floor, upon closer inspection, was not cleaned that well. The rug was dirty, the wood floor was so dirty my husband was able to sweep up a pile of dirt. The remote for the TV did not work (we called to have a replacement delivered). The toilet tank was leaking water out from it, but rather than be disturbed by and have to wait for maintenance, my husband was able to get the fill valve hose in the right position so as not to leak outside the tank. The vanity kit box was in the metal canister but the lid was open and the box was empty. The Vanity light did not work when plugged in, and the outlet itself was janky. The lovely bamboo on the vanity was gross and dusty. The desk lamp had exposed wires. The room outlets were sketchy and not securely attached to the wall and went into the wall when plugging something in, did not feel secure. Thursday morning we started hearing hammering in the room above us a little after 9am. We just assumed it was a quick maintenance repair and it would be done. We left and housekeeping refreshed the room, but removed and failed to leave behind a new replacement bath mat. We went to enjoy the Estuary Spa (the ONE perfect thing from our stay) and came back to continued hammering and what sounded like the floor being ripped up. This was then accompanied by the sound of an electric saw. What a terrible way to end 80 minutes of relaxation. We finally called and we were moved to our 3rd room in less than 24 hours. The new room’s bedroom area was clean and the view was better, but the shampoo and conditioner bottles were empty, which my husband found out while in the shower. So we had to wait for new ones to be delivered. The room’s water closet also had a gross stain down the wall and on the baseboard. It came up a bit when I used a wet tissue-and considering the location, I did not want to know what it was. The white pillow shams are GROSS. You can see dirt and make up on them. We just felt no attention was paid to the rooms or us as guests. The Estuary Spa was the one highlight of our stay and we couldn’t have been more pleased, unfortunately the relaxing effects wore off near immediately due to the construction work above us. My company offers to discount or move guests soon as we are aware there may be construction. I believe they were putting in new flooring so the hotel staff must have been aware of this before moving us there. This hotel did not meet the service or cleanliness expectations of this price point. We clearly just overpaid for the...
Read moreEditing review: I've received another $100 charge - this is the 4th $100 charge I've received. The first 2 we booked through a 3rd party site so I had to hand them my debit card each time for a deposit - understandable. On the 14th I was charged another deposit with the same billing/transaction code. They claimed they couldn't see this in their system but it should drop off. (We only stayed 2 nights?!) Okay, well, let's move past that... 3 days later ANOTHER $100 charge. The manager called me back, saying he also didn't see it - only the 2 from the nights that we stayed and maybe it had to do with something from the 3rd party site. It absolutely doesn't, because it's the exact same transaction/billing code as when I handed them my debit card physically inside of the hotel. Rather than contacting their financial or revenue team they told me to check in with my bank. Seriously? $400 in deposits that will "eventually drop off"? How many times will I be charged? This is insane.
So - weird review here! We ended up staying in 2 different buildings so I definitely have mixed reviews about it!
The NEWER building, first one when you pull in: Great. Absolutely amazing. We booked a Garden King Suite w/ a balcony and ended up in the first building. Everything was beautiful. Electric fireplace was nice. Chess-board themed table and a small couch with a tv to relax in. The beds/pillows are to die for. The bathroom was HUGE. There was a garden tub as well as a shower and vanity area. The balcony was amazing and you could see the battleship even though it was facing the parking lot. Robes and extra blankets were supplied as well. No issues! Staff was amazing. Easy to use privacy buttons & doorbells.
The OLDER building, second one when you pull in: Definitely older but still nice. The lounge was still beautiful. As far as the room, the doorbells/privacy lights didn't work and we had a housekeeper walk in without knocking or anouncing herself at all around dinner time. (4:30-5pm.) We were assured by the manager this wouldn't happen again. Later on I ended up stepping on a rusty nail which luckily didn't break through my foot but was still surprising. It did have a normal sized tub with jets but I had issues showering without the tub filling up as the stopper wouldn't say put. The fireplace was tricky to figure out as it was different than in the newer building. There was a refrigerator in this one though.
Area: There 2 restaraunts near it "Reel Bar" and "Fish House" We went to the Reel Bar/Grill the first night and the food just wasn't very good but we were starving after driving. The views around it definitely made up for it. There were firepits, rocking chairs, and an amazing view of the water. Nice little area to walk around. The pool area was down for maintenance but I did see people swimming anyways which was a bit confusing. There were multiple pools but the one in working condition seemed to be heated and looked beautiful. There are loaner bikes as well if you want to ride around the area as well as access to the water taxi. It's also in walking distance to the naval museuim and aquarium.
The hotel itself was luxurious, the lobby had multiple areas to sit with fireplaces and great espresso machines for a pick me up or hot chocolate as you're exploring.
I did get an extra authorization charge on my card but was told it would drop off. (3 rather than 2) but they said if it didn't they would take care of it.
The staff were extremely nice and helpful! I hope (Lyn?) is feeling better! Definitely ask to stay in the newer...
