Short story: Bad service, poorly maintained property, map is completely out of scale, and there are too many permanent residents for a KOA
Our experience: We arrived six weeks after booking by phone, to find our space was changed (just ours, our friends were still in the requested spot) so we were no longer near our friends. Jennifer, the check in person was rude, unhelpful and had every excuse in the book for her uselessness including how if I wanted a specific space that I needed to call and make the reservation over the phone (which I had). So we went and parked (maybe it wouldn't be so bad), walked around the place and then went back to ask if we could be moved since there were plenty of open spaces, reminding her that we had made the reservations for specific spaces and it was in fact their mistake so it would be nice if they could at least fix it. Her excuses then included how the person that made my reservation no longer worked there, that "see these maps? we are sold out and all these people still need to check in today" and then she even went so far as to tell me that the owner had recently died and was buried two weeks ago so the family was struggling?! What does one even say about that?!
So here we are, wrong spot, rude useless staff and the part I had not mentioned yet was that the property did nothing to redeem those setbacks. Our friends' campsite looked more like a day use area than a camping spot, no idea where the tent was actually supposed to go and it was the only site with no fire pit. If I had to guess I would say at one time it was likely a group site?! The 'dog park' was basically a small unmaintained dust bowl filled with loose fine dirt. It was actually a dog run mostly used for peoples dogs to poop. The basketball hoop was broken and the playground equipment was poorly maintained to the point that the swings sounded like dying animals all day long. I was also surprised to see the number of permanent residences. It might sound bad, but it felt like camping in someones front yard, in a trashy trailer park as opposed to being at a campground with a well known corporate name. Back to our stay, our friends arrived late, and decided it just made more sense to stay with us instead of trying to figure out the tent site layout. so we were four adults and three large dogs in a 19' trailer. The next day we went hiking and returned to a voicemail telling us there was an issue with the card we used to book the tent site. Good thing, because they basically just tried to charge us even though there was no one there. Since we had already paid the deposit we figured they would just cancel it and keep the deposit since no one was occupying the site... I thought that was in the policies somewhere, maybe not? When my husband went to go deal with that, Jennifer again, more rudeness... she told him they do not check the sites, that we would be forfeiting the deposit (the one I paid six weeks ago) and then informed him they had video of me yesterday in the office... huh?! of what? most likely me talking with my hands (too logically I presume) with a mask on six feet back from the counter? ok... and... We stayed our final night and got up in the morning, packed up and were getting ready to go when we were approached by a woman who identified herself as a manager (no mask, no name). She said she heard there was a "kerfuful" when we arrived and that they had seen and forwarded the video to corporate. I said Oh! Good because I was planing to call them on Monday. To which she said "PLEASE LET ME FINISH, do I need to tape this interaction too?!" then she went back to saying she had seen this video and I said "So you are aware of the issue we encountered?" SHE HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE ISSUE WAS, nor did she care. She just went on to say that they would like to ask us not to return there. (As if it was not clear we had no interest in returning.) She walked away when I asked...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe first harbinger was being directed to park in a certain direction at our pull-through site, which ended up putting hookups on the "wrong" side of our RV. When I inquired at the office about reversing direction was told that's the way I "have" to park in that site and that it was the last one available. Fortunately the power cord of our small class B was just long enough when we managed level on this uneven site. A bit later the lack of toilet paper in one of the two stalls in the men's restroom/shower was discovered after the office had closed for the night. ||||That would have probably brought my rating down to 4 or 3, but the morning dawned and after coffee we both headed to the showers to spruce up for the final leg of our trip home. My experience wasn't horrible, just unpleasant. The toilet that lack toilet paper was stopped up with seat protectors folks had used to wipe and overflowing. The shower stall floors were dirty and the mat in the shower itself was deteriorating with "spikes" sticking up that were pretty nasty. My wife's experience was grimmer. She attempted to clean her shower stall and dressing area before even stepping in barefooted. She found a moldy accumulation of hair and scum under the shower mat. an accumulation that wasn't just from a night or a weekend's neglect, but evidence of longtime negligent cleaning. It was downright nasty and unsanitary.||||Beautiful area with sadly neglected property. With the large number of tent, RV and cabin sites, The small bathroom facility needs to be closely monitored and cleaned thoroughly on a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWARNING on electrical This place is the worst place I have ever stayed. They have 1970s aluminum wiring and have it daisy chained. The voltage runs very low as low as 103 volt. If you have a good EMS it will shut down the power to your rig all day and night giving you spotty power at best. If you dont have a EMS then the power will run your rig but at this low voltage you will be burning up your appliances electronics. Learn more if you dont understand low voltage. We were unable to keep AC running do to the low voltage as well. They moved us up the line to keep me quiet but the voltage was just as bad. We talked to many others having the same problem as us. There maintenance supervisor told us to run our generator or just leave if we didnt like it. They have had this problem for a long time based off reading other reviews. Low voltage is one of the most dangerous and damaging things you can do to your RV. Lastly many of the other customers and our self's over the weekend watched the maintenance supervisor hang out at the pool watching little kids and girls swimming. He is not acting as a life guard. It made us and the family next to us so uncomfortable we would not let our kids or there kids swim. We noticed other family's that kept there kids back in camp. With all this said the management and owners have refused to contact us and deal with our concerns after many request. KOA corporate told us this is a individual owned park and they have no say so or...
