I've visited this place a couple of times and well, I've decided that this is a not I'd like to spend my money at. There's been many bad experiences I've had with this place. One being that most of the employees are collectors. From what I've heard, from both a neighboring store and the GameStop itself, these employees collect Funko Pop! figures too. I've even seen some of the workers line up outside of the nearby Hot Topic to get their exclusives when they have a release. Now, that is nothing bad. I think it is great that they collect stuff too but when a store is full of collectors, it does become hard to track down certain figures.
Once, I asked if they usually carried chases for Pop! figures and the guy at the register literally boasted "You'll NEVER find a chase in this location. We are all collectors and we usually get dibs on them first". Honestly that is quite unfair since it doesn't give customers the chance to even get the chases they want to get. Also, the neighboring store I mentioned earlier did confirm that the workers pretty much buy everything they want before putting them on the floor. Which again is unfair since people who might be up early for something new may not get what they waited hours for.
Also, in relation to the workers being collectors, I have an anecdote from like 2018. I believe it was around the release of that year's New York Comic Con exclusive Pops, lots of people lined up to Hot Topic. Especially since they were opening an hour earlier than usual. And just to clarify, the GameStop was also carrying NYCC exclusives that morning BUT they were going to open an hour after Hot Topic. Hot Topic finally opened and then we all got in, like 6 at a time. The guys from GameStop got in first since they were in front and they exited the store after purchasing their Pops. Eventually I got in too and bought the Pops I was getting that morning. And then I headed over to the GameStop and to my surprise, they decided to open early WITHOUT NOTIFYING ANYONE ELSE. Like what the heck? They sold out on the figures I was going to pick up from their store just because they decided "Hey, what about we open early too?" Eventually I did get my figures elsewhere but man, these guys did something without announcing it publicly. As a matter of fact, the front of the store said they weren't even going to open early. It stated they were going to open at the usual time they open.
I also had another problem regarding a figure I pre-ordered sometime ago. I believe it was after the release of Avengers: Infinity War that they had a Pop! of Hulk busting out of the Hulkbuster, which I preordered at the GS since it was an exclusive. I put down my money for it and got a receipt and everytime. Left the store and a month later, the figure was there. They called me before hand and it took me a week to pick it up. And to my surprise, they sold it because (I did not know at the time) they can only hold a pre-order for 48 hours. After that it's up for grabs. Now, the thing is that I never bother taking a look at the receipt and while that bit is on me, the store should also remind you of that rule. And I'm saying that because from the many other stores I've preordered at, the store always reminds me of that rule. ALWAYS. But the Plaza Bonita location NEVER told me that rule before or after placing the pre-order. NOT EVEN when they called me once it was there. So no thanks to them, I missed out of a figure that has become quite expensive and a grail for many. And the funny thing is that when I showed up to pick up the figure, they told me it was on me for not checking the receipt. So pretty much it was my fault for not checking the receipt NOR that they reminded me about the 48 hours hold policy.
Overall, this place is terrible and I hope they change the employees there. I know the same people work there last time I checked so as long as they're there, I'm not purchasing a thing from...
Read moreFirst and last time shopping at this store. I went in for the Spiderman 2 launch last night and it was a disorganized mess. There was only 1 employee running the registers, Juan, and another employee who was pretty much useless as I was told he couldn’t help me since he was a brand new employee who was in the process of being trained. I don’t mind that he couldn’t help but for a game night launch WHY would you only have 1 actually trained employee running the registers?!? It completely slowed the process down 1000 %. Not to mention that JUAN (who took it upon himself to tell me that he has worked at GS for 10 years now) loves to nitpick and choose certain policies to enforce while ignoring others. All I wanted to do was fully pay for the game at 8 pm like I was told over the phone even without a preorder as well as do some trade ins and use my discounts/coupons. He tried telling me since I didn’t have a preorder to come back the following day when they opened but I challenged him on this since I called ahead to confirm that I could do it. He checked and said that they had extra copies so it was ok. Having to fight with an employee over store policies is a terrible way to handle business and is a huge deterrent for shopping there. My biggest gripe was how the actual release was handled. I was told to come back at 9 and that groups of 5 would be taken in at a time. Well, I came back around 8:45 and saw there were people just hanging out near the entrance to the mall without a clear line or numbers or anything outlining an order. At 9 we were still waiting so everyone collectively just decided to walk in and we were met at the door to the store and told to file up while JUAN took his sweet time still ringing people up. I saw some people already leaving at 9 with copies of spiderman so it was very confusing what was going on. He was still using the registers to ring people up after 9 even though I was told that the registers closed and that it would be a fast and smooth process for picking up. Because JUAN was still ringing people up it took him 15 minutes to finally start letting us come up and grab our games. Beyond infuriating! For someone who has, supposedly, worked for this company for so long I would’ve expected much better faster service and understanding but nope. I regret this experience and I guess it just serves as a reminder why not to preorder or shop at...
Read moreAn employee lied and caused a scene after my roommate waited in line for hours for a pokemon drop. literally waited for hours and he was just trying to get a little space from the crowd and instead got accused of cutting the line. he didn’t catch the employees name, but feminine, brown skin, glasses, heavyset. handled the situation very poorly and proceeded to ignore him even when he calmly tried to explain the situation and that waiting in line wasn’t an issue. literally the situation is terrible all the way around. i’m sure the employees are overworked, underpaid, understaffed and very stressed!! your customers are also upset because they can’t make a simple transaction in your store even when following the arbitrary rules and waiting for hours! waiting in line isn’t the issue clearly since people are willing to wait for HOURS, but maybe a little more organization and leadership from your staff? visual signage and verbal direction to keep the lines and the crowds under control to keep your staff AND your customers safe!! these events need to be better organized and the staff needs to be better trained/equipped to handle such a large volume of customers. i’m disappointed in how this was handled by your store location, but also the mall itself as their staff and the building should also be more prepared for these kinds of events where they know there will be an...
