It was a busy day at the Buttonwood Park Zoo. The zoo ecently took charge of two orphan black bears that lived in Alaska. Needless to say what a rewarding experience. The exhibits looked great and well maintained and the animals seemed to be enjoying themselves. This is definitely due to a team effort of the staff and animal keepers. Outside the bear habitat a staff member was giving a background of the bears to visitors. THAT alone is rewarding to visitors to help them learn more. The carousel was busy as was the train that children can ride. I think the parents were just as thrilled as their children. The gift shop, filled with new fall merchandise was very busy-. I'm so proud and thankful having the Zoo solo close to home. I'm also thankful of the caring staff who work there. It's...

Great zoo! Lots to see but not overwhelming. Perfect place for a leisurely day, or even half day.

There's a public park with swings and climbing equipment nearby, tennis courts, long walking path, and a large duck pond.

Zoo staff frown on people bringing lunch inside as they want you to buy at the on site restaurant, but I've brought PB&J for the kids and ate it anyway, though they claimed we couldn't. You can take a break outside the gates and avoid the issue, but ask about re-entry before you leave.

Pick up discount passes at many MA libraries, but only New Bedford residents can get them in the City library.

All in all, a wonderful way to pass the time and enjoy some air, exercise and the variety of animals at an...

We went to Boo at the Zoo and they did a great job helping everyone stay distant and safe. Everyone was wearing a mask and doing their best to keep 6 ft apart. I love that the park was 1 way. We went earlier in the morning so it wasn't as crowded as afternoon/evening. The animals were up and eating. One thing that could change was the food counter. The order station and pick up station was at the same window. People were huddled around it trying to order and pay while also getting their food. Wish there was a pick up station that one of the employees could set up a table and run the food to that table and call the name on the pick up slip. Other than that it was a great alternative to trick...

I absolutely love this Park! There's the Zoo which isn't expensive at all but if you're not looking to spend money there's also a great playground the kids will love. There's free parking, basketball courts, lots of picnic tables, a pond with a lot of geese and ducks. The entire Park is pretty big so it's a great place to go for a walk. Either by yourself, with friends or your dog. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive way to have fun with the kids or looking to have a great time without spending any money.

The zoo is very small and has animals that you could see at farms and in the wild all over New England, but it provided a few hours of fun for my young kids on a rainy day during our vacation. They did have an Asian elephant, which is something even the Philadelphia Zoo does not have. If you are a member of another zoo, see if you get a discount (Philadelphia Zoo members get 50% off entry, so for a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids (7 yo, 4 yo, and 8 mo) it cost $16 to get in and parking is free. Hard to beat that!
